Kalibiru Raja Ampat West Papua

Kalibiru is the hidden gem in Papua you need to visit. This place is hidden in the Raja Ampat regency’s forest. It has water that looks like a blue gemstone crystal, like its name. You may not find it in any usual tourist recommendations online. However, it is a must-visit place that is untouched and preserved beautifully.

You might need a lot of effort to reach the location of Kalibiru Raja Ampat since it is among the Raja Ampat forest with quite a secluded and untouched environment. The exact location of this place is Kampung Warsambin, Raja Ampat Regency, West Papua Province. Raja Ampat itself is already famous for its beautiful sea and preserved underwater ecosystem.

It would be best if you used a speedboat to arrive at the place. The duration of the journey should be at least one hour using a speedboat from the capital city of Raja Ampat, Waisai. After that, you must cross the river and trek in the forest for about 30 minutes. After a successful journey, you will find this beautiful place in Mayalibit bay.

How to Reach Kalibiru Raja Ampat

When you see the river of Kalibiru, you will find that the surface looks so transparent that you can see the bottom very clearly. Another name for this river is Warabiae, which means ‘clean blue river.’ It is also called Waiyal, which in literal translation should mean ‘water’ and ‘know what will happen for tomorrow.’ The river has a calm current and a depth of about 2-5 meters.

Adding to the beauty, Kalibiru has some story behind it that could be a special attraction to visitors. Based on the local story, this river was the place for bathing for the King in Pulau Waigeo. This river is also considered sacred for the Maya tribe in this region. In the Mayalibit legend, many soldiers had bathed in this Kalibiru before the war.

That is because they believe that bathing in this place would make them strong so they can defeat their enemy. There is also another story related to this river. People say that a white crocodile lives in the river. This animal will show up if there are people who violate the local laws.

Observe that the blue color in this river is not caused by algae but by sunlight refraction. To prove this, you can see that the water upstream is clear and without color.

The temperature of the water is cold. This is also what makes this place so unique and one of a kind. The temperature is about 10 degrees to 20 degrees Celsius. This happens because the trees quite hide this place.

Bottom Line

Located in West Papua, Kalibiru Raja Ampat is the one place for tourists to visit. Especially if you want to experience the best natural environment, you could get in Papua. Then, visiting this place is a good choice for you. Its natural beauty will welcome you and ask you to visit it once again in the future.
