Manokwari News Today: The Stable Price of Rice

Price of Rice in Manokwari is quite stable

The stable price of rice cannot be separated from the government’s interference. It was, moreover, considering that Manokwari has a wide land for farming, especially for rice cultivation.

What about the Rice Price?

The government suggests Manokwari be the barn of rice in that area since it has half the farm soil of the whole area in West Papua. This amazing fact supports Manokwari in becoming a more productive regency. You will find the details in the last parts of this article.

There are better parts of the good news. The BumDes Mulya Bersama has been making significant efforts to stabilize the price of rice in Manokwari.

The BumDes or Badan Usaha Milik Desa, or we can say the Country Business Entity tries to give a contribution. They will do it by stabilizing the rice price for the Prafi District to supply the needs of the government employees in the Manokwari Regency.

How BumDes Support the Farmers in Manokwari?

BumDes supports farmers in Manokwari

The person in charge of BumDes Mulya Bersama, Carko said, the Country Business Entity buys rice from the farmers every month to supply the needs of government employees.

What the BumDes Does to the Rice Price?

Carko added that BumDes takes the monthly yields for government supply, while farmers can sell it to other buyers for the rest.

Furthermore, Bumdes Mulya Bersama also stabilizes the rice price to Rp12.500 per kilogram. This is the best price since the rice price before was lower than that.

Carko also said that if other buyers give higher prices, farmers can sell the yields to them. So, there is no coercion from the BumDes for them to must sell the rice only to the Country Business Entity.

He hopes that in the future, not only the government of Manokwari will buy the yields but also the government of West Papua. Of course, it makes sense because by doing so, farmers’ productivity can increase. Moreover, they will work harder than before to maintain the quality of the yields.

Why Does the Government of West Papua Recommend Manokwari as the Rice Barn?

Manokwari has good potential for rice barn

Yacob Fonataba, the Head Of the Food Crop Department, Horticulture and Plantation clearly said the details. There is 2.257 ha of productive farming soil in Manokwari and its total farming soil is 5.015 ha. That is more than enough reason to call Manokwari the rice barn.

The Great Reason Behind the Recommendation

Before the South West Papua expansion, the total wide reached 11 ha. But today, 5.015 ha left in Manokwari Regency. It spread to South Manokwari, Wondama Bay, Bintuni Bay, Kaimana and Fakfak.

About 557.000 people live in West Papua. So, to fulfill the needs of rice every year, the yields have to reach about 49.098 kilograms every year.

Unfortunately, in Manokwari Regency, the yields reach only about 30.691 kilograms every year. This still needs to meet the target.

So, if the Manokwari Regency is going to the area’s rice barn, farmers and the government. They should make more effort to fulfill the target mentioned above.

But, overall, this is still good news for Manokwary Regency, since farmers can get more profits from many buyers. Hopefully, the government can hand in hand to give the best result of yields in West Papua.
