Jokowi Inaugurates Gas Engine Power Plant in Jayapura and Nabire

President of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated 2 Gas Engine Power Plants (PLTMG) with a total capacity of 70 MW, located in Jayapura and Nabire. The inauguration was held at PLTMG Nabire, Kalibobo Village, Nabire Regency, Papua Province, Wednesday (20/12/2017).

In his speech, President Joko Widodo said that is difficult to build electricity in the Land of Papua, but it should be a spirit for government to light up the whole country. Jokowi also appreciated the timely performance of State Electricity Company (PLN) in completing the construction of power plants in Papua and West Papua in order to fulfill electricity supply in all of Papua region.

Electricity is the key investment in Papua. One of which is PLTMG Nabire 20 MW which has an investment value of about 444 billion IDR. In the project contract, in addition to building the power plant (EPC Contract) also includes the implementation of Operation & Maintenance (O&M) for five years with PT PP (Persero) Tbk Consortium Wartsila Finland Oy and PT Wartsila Indonesia as contractors. With a construction period of eight months and employing 479 people, the power plant has started operating on the Nabire system since December 8, 2017.

With an additional of 20 MW from the power plant, the Nabire system’s power will increase by 105%. Increasing the availability of electricity will increase the electrification ratio with the potential to increase the number of new customers by 25,000.

In the meantime, PLTMG Jayapura 50 MW project contract consists of work construction (EPC) and work of Operation & Maintenance (O&M) for 5 years worked by Consortium of PT PP (Persero) Tbk as a contractor, Wartsila Finland Oy, and PT Wartsila Indonesia. The project which has an investment value of 866 billion IDR, has been operating since November 24, 2017, with a construction period of 7.5 months and able to absorb of 538 workers. The existence of PLTMG Jayapura 50 MW will increase approximately 60% of power in Jayapura System and potentially add approximately 62,000 new customers.

Meanwhile, the 20 MW electricity from PLTMG MPP Nabire will allow the Nabire power system to supply 42 MW. In this case, the Regent of Nabire Isaias Douw expressed his gratitude for the existence of PLTMG in Nabire.

“I am on behalf of the government and the people of Nabire express our gratitude and give the highest appreciation to the President for the development of this PLTMG in Nabire. We believe that with this PLTMG, the local government and PLN in 2018 will strive to increase the power grid for a number of villages and districts in Nabire”, said Nabire Regent Isaias Douw.
