The Government of Teluk Wondama Regency, West Papua, has five priority agendas that will be the concentration of future development. Among the five agendas, Teluk Wondama Government prioritizes community economic empowerment.
As we know, the poverty rate in Papua is quite high. So steps to improve the economy and community empowerment deserve to be a top priority. Therefore, the Teluk Wondama Regency Government is taking the right steps because it prioritizes this.
Hendrik Mambor, the Regent of Teluk Wondama in Wasior, said, “Through this economic improvement and community empowerment program is also to reduce the number of stunting cases, which is the impact of extreme poverty.”
The First Step
To start the priority agenda of improving the quality of human resources, the Regent of Teluk Wondama started with teachers’ discipline and work ethic. This initial step taken by the district government is very appropriate.
Because the main factor in the low quality of human resources of the Papuan people is the low discipline and quality of education. At the same time, the perpetrators of the world of education are the teachers.
If these teachers lack discipline in their duties and their work ethic is lacking, then automatically, the quality of education will be low, so the human resources of students as a generation of Papua will be low.
So the first step in improving the human resources of the people of Teluk Wondama by controlling the teachers is the right step. In this regard, the Teluk Wondama Regency Government utilizes a coordinate-based application to supervise teachers.
Through this application, teacher discipline will be seen, whether the teacher is on duty or not. With the presence of this application, it is hoped that teachers will carry out their duties according to applicable regulations and pay more attention to students.
So that Papuan children will get proper education like other Indonesian children. Where these children are Papuan assets to advance the land of Papua.
Infrastructure Improvement
The next priority of the Regency Government is to improve the quality of basic infrastructure and connectivity between regions. The district government does this to welcome the celebration of a century of Civilization in the Land of Papua held in 2025.
In addition, it is also to welcome the 19th session of the SInode GKI (Gospel Christian Church) in the Land of Papua, which will be held in 2027. Mambor said:
“In the framework of 2025 and 2027, the focus of infrastructure preparation is directed at accelerating the construction of the new IS Kijne airport. We are all in Teluk Wondama responsible for IS Kijne Airport being finished.”
Because these two events are very important for the people of Papua and automatically require infrastructure that supports the event. Because as we know, the infrastructure in Papua is still far from standard. This may be due to its difficult geography.
Therefore, this infrastructure problem must be addressed immediately. Even if, for example, there are no two events in the coming years, infrastructure development should be a concern for the Regional Government.
Apart from that, the next focus of attention of the Teluk Wondama Regency Government is on environmental and natural resource management, where this arrangement is based on sustainability.
In addition, the district government also focuses on improving governance and special autonomy. This is also very important to pay attention to because good governance will result in better service to the community. And vice versa.
In this regard, Regent Mambor appealed to the implementing section to formulate programs and activities following good planning principles to greatly influence the community’s welfare.
