The West Papua Province and Depapre Port Development

Just like the other provinces in Indonesia, West Papua also needs a proper infrastructure to support it’s economy chain. One of them is for the sea transportation.

Sea transport has a strategic role in supporting the national development in all fields. That is including to unite Indonesia which is full of diversity, both religious, tribal, cultural, racial and language diversity.

Besides that; this kind of mode also becomes a crucial infrastructure in moving the economic wheel of the country. It is especially the Leading, outermost, and lagging areas.

In the other words, it is like a connector to connect several activities and the inter – islands constructions. The good infrastructure, will create a positive impact.

The infrastructure in the West Papua and some other areas are a homework fot the government. The leaders should do the equitable development.

It is especially related to the efforts to increase the pace of the economy. That will lead to improving the welfare of the community in this country.

Quoting Yakob Sese Tolo, a researcher and author who is concerned about the development issues of eastern Indonesia, he revealed that the lag of constructions in Eastern Indonesia is not a new problem.

Developing the Depapre Port

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, on various occasions revealed, the Government wants to accelerate various infrastructure plans in that area.

That is including the transportation infrastructure to improve a proper connectivity in Papua province and West Papua as well. It is a major plan, especially in this recent period.

In fact, various infrastructure and facilities in the land, sea transportation sector in both provinces are called for development. There is one aim.

That thing is an effort to improve the logistics efficiency, increase the efficiency of goods and services transactions, and encourage the success of local products in the national economy.

Some efforts done by the government related to the sea transportation development are like developing the Depapre, Nabire, Pomako, Moor, and Serui Port.

Meanwhile, for the West Papua region, the Kaimana Port is the one which is chosen. The Directorate General of Sea Transportation, Ministry of Transportation said something.

He will specifically develop the Port of Depapre which is one part of the T-19 Sea Toll route. The Efforts to build and develop those infrastructures are carried out by opening investment opportunities.

The Benefits of Sea Toll Development in West Papua and Around

The implementation of the Sea Toll Route H-19 year 2021 until the first quarter in Papua continues to grow with increasing demand for local commodities.

A number of parties claimed, there was an acceleration jump in the economic field in areas in coastal areas of that province. It is especially in Depapre and the surrounding areas.

Even this acceleration can be directly felt by the Merauke farmers whose their production can be directly marketed to the consumers. The products are easier to be sold.

Depapre Development efforts continue to be carried out by the Government through the Provincial Office and Port Authority (KSOP) Class II Jayapura.

It is cooperated with the Directorate General of Sea Transportation, as coordinator of the port areas in that Province together with the Jayapura District Government as well.

The Development steps that will be carried out in West Papua and around include the optimization of multi purpose harbors. It also for the container yards that are already in operation.

The other efforts done are like increasing the capacity transactions and volume of local natural resource products that have become the flagship commodities of Jayapura Regency.

The examples are like the Batu Ciping, Pasir Abu and Kayu. That is as well as the mineral water and optimization of tourism destinations in the region.

It is known that the destinations there are very interesting and amazing for travelers. The example is like Raja Ampat in the West Papua province which is really popular.

Why Infrastructure Development Should Be Accelerated

Budi Karya once said that these provinces are the future of Indonesia. That is why; the development of infrastructures there must be accelerated for these aims.

The government’s goal in accelerating the development of transportation infrastructurein West Papua is to improve the efficiency of logistics delivery.

It means that the process will be easier and simpler. That is not only by sea, but also for all of the transportation modes.

Before, most of the daily products’ prices in that region are really expensive. That makes the people are difficult to fulfill their needs since the stocks are limited as well.

That is why; it is hoped that It is expected that the issue of price disparity for goods and services between the eastern and western regions can be addressed.

A better transportation can encourage the competitiveness of domestic products. Budi Karya said the infrastructure achievements that are being achieved include the land, sea, and air transportation sector in West Papua and around.
