There is a unique relationship between the Queen and Papua New Guinea, but most people didn’t know about that. Papua New Guinea is located in the eastern part of the island of Papua. This country is bordered by the Indonesian province of West Papua. As you know, this country is bordered by the Pacific Ocean in the north and Coral Sea in the south. It’s extremely located near Indonesia but not part of the country. 

When the people of Papua New Guinea declared their independence, they decided their government system. They choose to adopt the Commonwealth Realm Constitutional Monarchy. This is a government system that recognizes the Queen of Great Britain as the Head of State. 

From this information, we know the actual relationship between them. In this condition, the Queen of Great Britain or the United Kingdom will be a Governor General of Papua New Guinea. Also, the Head of Government is the Prime Minister of Great Britain.

The Queen of the United Kingdom is the head of 53 Commonwealth nations. For all those Commonwealth nations, the Queen still acts as the Queen of the United Kingdom. But it’s different with Papua New Guinea. All of her duties relating to Papua New Guinea are very special. The Queen always speaks and acts as its Queen and she doesn’t act like the Queen of the United Kingdom. 

Papua New Guinea becomes very special because of the Queen’s act. The Queen, also known as Missis Kwin and Mama, belong to a big family in Tok Pisin. Based on history, the Queen accepted straight away for the request of Papua New Guinea. When people of Papua New Guinea wanted a monarch, the Queen accepted it easily without needing to wait for a long time. 

Queen’s Trip to Papua New Guinea

As the Governor General of Papua New Guinea, the Queen has visited this country several times. One year after the declaration, the Queen and her husband had visited Papua New Guinea. The interesting fact about this moment is that the Duke of Edinburgh, daughter Anne, and the Princess Royal join the trip. 

The Queen had visited Papua New Guinea several times. During her trips, she is loved by many people in this country. That’s why their relationship is very beautiful. There is almost no conflict between them and the Queen doing very well for her task in this country. 

In 2012, King Charles III (at that time he’s a prince), had a special journey to Papua New Guinea. It’s a trip for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations. King Charles III has a very great speech for the people. It means the Royal Family have a good relationship with Papua New Guinea as they are one Commonwealth country.
