Who are West Papua Well-Known Athletes and Its Future

West Papua is like any other Papuan origin, the one who has a lot of talents, athleticism, and good behavior. Many well-known athletes come from the far east of Indonesia, and it has become a pride for Papuans as well as all Indonesians in this era.

we cannot doubt how big the role of eastern Indonesian society is in the Indonesian sports scene. Without neglecting other regions, Indonesia is recognized as having extraordinary talents with all forms of achievements that can be presented to the homeland.

Although in terms of facilities, Tanah Papua does not have many sports facilities with national and international standards, it is this sense of enthusiasm that makes Tanah Papua excel. It is proven by several talents who are now idols in Indonesian sports.

All regions in Papua have earned the nickname “black pearls”, with these pearls of wisdom describing how valuable they are. Not only are they who have been well-known, but it’s also the talent that is worth it for us to pay attention to.

Pride of the People of West Papua

Papua’s history in the realm of Indonesian sports is extensive and has entered many sectors. Until one by one the sectors entered have contributed to producing and giving birth to well-known athletes.

Once again, we will remind you that, for example, if the facilities continue to be accelerated and developed, there will be more and more talents. So, who are the pride of the athletes of Papua, especially the West of the Papua for now?

  1. Christian Worabay

The first proud athlete was Christian Worabay who was born in Serui, Yapen Island, West Papua who made his debut in the Indonesian football world in 2005. His talent helped him become one of the national team players at the 2005 Sea Games.

  • Billy Ramandey

From football, we move to equestrian athletes who also come from Papua. He can be the pride of the people there and also Indonesia after successfully becoming an international and international tournament since 11th grade of high school.

  • Lisa Rumbewas

Lisa Rumbewas, her name could be recognized by a lot of Indonesian as she has participated in many events, 3 consecutive Olympics for instance. She became the representative of Indonesia in lifting sport and won some medals for Indonesia.

Lisa Rumbewas has become the pride of West Papuan for her accomplishment in winning silver medals in 2000 Sydney Olympic and 2004 in Athena. She is also fully recognized as the pioneer of powerlifting in Papua.

  • Rahmat Renwarin

Another sport that gave birth to outstanding athletes from the West of the Papua is Rahmat Renwarin, a Wushu athlete. He became one of Indonesia’s representatives at the Asian Games in 2018 and is still active in the 75 kg Wushu class.

West Papua is Similar to Other Papua, the Black Pearl in Sport

Many Indonesians, of course, know that Papua is a land of talents. Apart from the players we mentioned above, Papua deserves to be an area that is considered very important for the progress of Indonesian sports, ranging from football, basketball, to other sports.

If in Papua we know a lot of football players like Boaz Solossa, Todd Ferre, and several other players, in the western region of the island, of course, they also have their talents. Black pearls deserve the nickname Papua for some reason.

Black pearl is the name for the Papuan people because the Papuan people generally have dark skin and it is a genetic and geographical factor. On the other hand, this pearl of wisdom describes the quality of the people here which is very valuable like pearls in general.

But for now, we have to admit that not much attention has been paid to it. Facilities are still very lagging if we compare it with other cities, let alone the class of the capital. Passion and persistence are values that make the quality of the people there very good.

West Papuan Potency Is Worth to Pay Attention To

But in any case, we can’t ignore what’s already in Papua. As evidenced by the 2021 PON event, West Papua can talk a lot at the event with the young talents they have.

However, good sports management will produce well-developed talents because it is very feasible if these Indonesian assets get proper facilities. This shared budget must be allocated for consistent development overtime to make sure the growth and advanced talent.

The Papuan people, especially those living in the western area of the island, are known for their speed, endless breath, and insane agility. So, if the potential of these athletes will be more optimal by investing in the construction of venues in the area.

Human management, this word may be very fitting to describe what are the main needs of athletes in the area. They are very consistent in pursuing their targets and one example of the case that can be seen is when the Papua PON XX in 2021.

As Indonesian citizens, we must be grateful for the presence of athletes from Papua who have contributed to making Indonesia widely known. However, this asset must be treated well because we have not seen proper facilities for West Papua and its surroundings.
