The right to education has been guaranteed by the Constitution. Areas that are lagging behind in the field of education are also entitled to get the affirmative policy, in order to create educational equality. This is stipulated in Law Number 20 of 2003 on the National Education System, which states that citizens in remote, backward and indigenous areas are entitled to special service education.

The Papuan generation is still getting special attention from the government. This time it is the turn of the local government of Yalimo Regency that distributes scholarship funding of Rp 3.44 billion to 600 students from that region who are studying at universities in Jayapura city. The aid was handed over by representatives of local government in Yalimo student dormitory located at Buper Waena Street, Jayapura City on Monday (8/21/2017).

Kalvin Kepno, the Yalimo government representative, asked Yalimo students to use the funding aid according to their needs and allocations to support educational activities. “We hope that students use this scholarship according to their allocation and needs during their study on campus, so hopefully with the support of this tuition the students can be more focus and concentration in learning, so that after graduation can serve to Country and Nation,” Kalvin told Media on Monday 21/8/2017).

Kalvin also said the budget is a concern of local governments to the youth generation of the region who will return and build the district. The Papua Provincial Government expects the scholarship recipients can really complete their education on target. The target is needed so that students can be serious in studying. Yalimo students must study well.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Yalimo Student Association of Indonesia (HMKYS) Elkias Alipnoye said the attention of the local government to students from the region has been done regularly every year. As a student organization, he said very grateful and will help by preparing student data well. Whether it’s students who are studying in Indonesia to abroad. “We are here as a mediator that must prepare student data so that all can be accommodated, we are motivated to learn and to immediately pass in our study in order to serve the Nation and the State and our home region,” he said.
