The Economic Growth of Papua has Risen Above The National Economic Growth

The province of Papua is ready to become the economic gateway for Eastern Indonesia to spur development and economic growth in the eastern region of Indonesia. Papua’s economic growth reaches 9.21% above the national economic growth.

This was disclosed by the Secretary of the Papua Region, Hery Dosinaen, S.IP.M.KP in his direction at the Regional Consultation Forum of GRDP, Sulawesi, Maluku and Papua (SULAMPUA) in Sasana Krida Governor’s office on Tuesday (19/9/17). “We, the provincial government of Papua is ready to become the gateway of Eastern Indonesia to access the economy of Indonesia,” he said. “We are fighting for access to this economy can be distributed from the easternmost provinces to the Pacific countries and other regions,” he explained.

Papua Governor Lukas Enembe said that Papua’s economic growth is supported by a drop in poverty from 31.13% in 2013 to 27.80% in 2014, down by 2.25 points. “With this decline, Papua Province was awarded the first best MDGs category of poverty reduction from the Minister of National Development Planning/Bappenas,” he said.

He said that farmers exchange rate (NTP) also increased from 97.54 in June 2014 to 97.77 in July 2014. This indicates the increasing ability or purchasing power of farmers and will affect the welfare of the community. “This is in line with the vision and mission of the government in developing and improving the economy community-based on local potential,” said Lukas Enembe.

In line with the governor of Papua, the Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Papua Province, Didik Koesbianto said, NTP obtained from the comparison price index accepted by farmers (It) to the price paid by farmers (Ib). “NTP in percentage is one indicator to see the ability or purchasing power of farmers in rural areas,” Didik said. “The higher the NTP, the stronger a level of ability or purchasing power of farmers,” he added.

In aggregate (YoY%), the economic growth achieved by Papua Province in the era of Lukas Enembe in the year 2016, was much higher than the average achievement of economic growth achieved by the majority of provinces in Java. Based on the graphic, the economic growth value of Papua Province reached 9.21%, much greater than the economic movement in East Java Province which only reached 5.55%, DI. Yogyakarta 5.05%, Central Java 5.28%, Banten 5.26%, West Java 5.67% and DKI Jakarta at 5.85%.
