Exploring Mansinam Island of West Papua

West Papua is home to natural beauty and heartwarming history, which has become one of the must-visit places to explore the east side of Indonesia.

Mansinam Island is one of those places you have to take a look at. This place is home to a vast Jesus Christ sculpture, which explains why Mansinam has become a popular destination for all Christians worldwide.

This article will find many exciting things about this island and where to go when you are on Mansinam Island. Raja Ampat might be breathtaking, but Mansinam Island is another paradise you have to visit too.

The Beauty of Mansinam Island

Like any other tourist destination, Mansinam Island offers beauty that you may not encounter elsewhere.

Besides being famous for its spiritual tour, Mansinam Island features a history that allows you to feel closer to the island than ever. From the sky to the sea, here are things you would love from Mansinam Island.

#1 A vast Jesus Christ sculpture

The Jesus Christ sculpture is undoubtedly the most iconic thing on Mansinam Island. Its size is gigantic – up to 30 meters – and located atop the hill. Visitors can reach the area after passing along yet windi stairs.

However, the view is worth the effort in many ways, especially if you are interested in learning about how Christians were taught on this island.

The sculpture is somewhat a symbol of Christianity on Papua land. Of course, everyone is welcome to visit this place.

#2 A site of evangelist tombs

Another reason why Mansinam Island is popular for spiritual tours is because you will find the site of evangelist tombs. Christian is the majority in Papua, and Mansinam Island seems to be where the gospel was taught in the past.

The most well-known missioner was Carel Willemottow. The tombs on the site are still well taken care of today.

Other than showing the history of the spread of Christianity, the site is quite interesting to be visited. It adopts the architectural style of the Biak Tribe called the Rumsram style.

#3 Beaches everywhere

Mansinam Island will also spoil you with its natural beauty. It has lots of greens and beaches everywhere. There are several popular beaches, such as Maruni Beach, Amban Beach, Bakaro Beach, and Yen Bebay Beach. The latter has white sands everywhere.

Other than beaches, you can also explore the underwater attraction at Doreri Bay. More than anything, West Papua will never let you down regardless of your preference when it comes to vacations.

How To Get There

Mansinam Island is not as popular as Raja Ampat and other islands on West Papua. If you want to reach this place, you can start from Manokwari instead. The island is located about 4 kilometres from the coastline of Manokwari Putih.

After reaching the harbour at Manokwari Putih, you need to take a motorboat that might accommodate 12 adults at once. It takes 15 minutes to bring you to Mansinam Island. Also, the motorboat trip only costs Rp. 5.000 per person.

However, the vendor may ask you to pay for the empty seat if the passengers are less than 10 people.

Meanwhile, speed boats are a great alternative for those who prefer something faster – as long as you don’t mind the price, after all.

More than anything, Mansinam Island holds a crucial role for all people in Papua. It is a place where the Christianity was born on this island, and everyone can enjoy their trip to West Papua.

Whether you are looking for beaches, mountains, or a trip around the city, West Papua will never let you down. This place is a must-visit on many levels.
