Exploring West Papua Language Map

The geographical location can create the various West Papua Language map. It helps to group the languages, although it does not have a common origin. Linguistics has become diverse and created more languages.

Nowadays, there are more local languages used in West Papua. The below article will tell you about the West Papua Language. 

Abun, Abun Gii, and Abun Ji Language

The most spoken language is Abun. This language is used in the Abun district, including Wau Village at Tambrauw Regency. The local people also mention the use of this language. It is commonly spoken in the west, east, and north Wau Village. 

Meanwhile, the southern part uses another language. The residence there prefers to speak the Menyah language. So, almost none speaks Abun in the south. 

Studies also record the surrounding languages like Abun Gii or Abun Jii and Abun Ji. All of them are different in dialects, which is around 81% to 100 % proportion difference.

People in the Werur Village speak the Abun Gii language mostly. The location is in the Bikar District of Tambraw Regency. 

Aside from this village, other villages use this language. They are Bamusbama, Baun, and Okwari villages. This language enables us to observe the linguistic situation in both east and west village borders.

The Abun Ji is also called Karon Pantai. This language is used by Jokte Village in Sausapor District. Like the Abun Gii, this language is also spoken in the other villages, like Subun, Bamusbama, and Baun. 

We can find people who live on the Moraid coast who speak Abun Ji. Some small and big families apply this language in their daily lives. 

The initial speakers of this language lived in Baun village. Then, they moved to the Sausapor village. After that, they moved again to the Jokte village.

Baham Language

The Baham language is spoken in Kotam Village located in the East Fak-Fak District. Besides, it is also spoken in the eastern part. However, the north, west, and south part speaks Iha language. 

The dialectometric results show the comparisons of the Baham language with other languages nearby. It presents a big percentage difference. Moreover, the lexicon and phonology are also different. 

Iha Language

Iha language is another language that is also commonly spoken. It is used by Kampung Baru village in the Kokas district. The residents mention that this language is spoken by people living in the west and south part of Kampung Baru village. 

This language develops and grows from the surrounding languages. It is widely spread to some groups of families. Yet, the dialectometric calculations results show the 81%—100% difference.

Meyah Language

The name Meyah shows the close relations with the origin. This language is spoken by the Meyes Village located in the north Manokwari districts. The residents have also informed us about the use of this language by people living in the east and west of the village. 

The geographical location shows the spread of the local language in the Meyes village. Although most people speak Meyah, only fewer claim they speak Hatam. 

Mpur and Coastal Mpur Language

The people in Kebar Village speak this language. The residents tell us that this language is bordered by some languages. There is the Meyah language in the east, and there is the Abun language in the west.
