Facts About Ade Juwita, A Legendary Comedian From Sorong, West Papua

Who doesn’t know about “Si Manis Jembatan Ancol’ soap operas? For the 90s Indonesia soap operas or movies lovers, “Si Manis Jembatan Ancol” was one of the most famous series. The interesting story matched with unique characters successfully caught many viewers’ attention. One of the unique characters was played by Ade Juwita, which makes his popularity rise in Indonesia’s entertainment industry

Ade Juwita was a comedian who was born on May 5, 1966, in Sorong, West Papua. He started his career as a comedian by acting in “Lenong Rumpi,” broadcasted on RCTI. His “feminine” character and funny attitude caught viewers’ attention, which got him more roles in other soap operas and movies. Sadly, he already passed away on November 6, 2015, and was buried in Sorong, West Papua

Acted Feminine Since Childhood

Ade Juwita, whose original name was Joni Libertifa Ateva, is a West Papuan with a big body. Since he was a child, he had more interest in feminine things. He chose to play with dolls than cars. His interest in feminine things was more shown in junior high school when he started using makeup and dressed up like a girl. He even started to like boys in senior high school.

His feminine interest and actions upset his father. Ade told that his father hit and locked him in a room for days. Not only took an interest in feminine things, but Ade also had comedy talent that he inherited from his father. These two combinations soon will be his iconic style on soap operas and movies that raise his popularity.

Got Popularity After Starring in “Lenong Rumpi” Comedy Show

Since he was a boy, Ade had dreamed of being a famous comedian. He started making his path in the entertainment industry by starring in the “Lenong Rumpi” Comedy Series, broadcast in the 90s. Ade, with other comedians like Debi Sahertian and Suti Karno, acted comically to entertain viewers in this show.

But, unlike other comedians, he often acted “girly” in every role. His “girly” acting, combined with his witty behavior, became his “iconic” identity and succeeded in catching viewers’ attention. Through this show, Ade started to get recognition as a talented comedian from West Papua. The acting offers, either from movies or soap operas, started coming to him, including the role in “Si Manis Jembatan Ancol,” which increased his popularity. 

Liked to Do Body Treatment

As someone interested in feminine things since a little boy, this fact shouldn’t be questioned anymore. Ade indeed enjoyed doing body treatments even though rumors said he was willing to spend one million rupiahs a month doing full-body treatments like hair, face, and scrub treatments.

In an interview with Andre Taulany, Ade said he usually did face, hair, and scrub treatments. He even intentionally left his makeup on while he was sleeping. He felt his makeup was expensive that it was such a waste to clean it from his face.

Passed Away Due to Gastric and Lymph Node Disease

Five years before he passed away, Ade was not permanently living in Jakarta. He decided to live in Sorong, West Papua, and only came to Jakarta for work purposes. While in Sorong, he mostly spent his days with his family and was involved in some church activities. 

Unfortunately, his health condition began to decline, which made him should be hospitalized for a month. According to his friend, Harry De Fretes, Ade had called him with his weak voice to pray for his recovery. He and other friends had a plan to visit him, but their busy schedules and distance prevented them. 

Ade’s condition worsened until he finally passed away in Sorong Hospital, West Papua, at 07.40 WIT. He died at 49 years old and never married for the rest of his life. His death was caused by gastric disease, then spread into lymph node disease. 

This news shocked Ade Juwita’s friends, colleagues, fans, and the entertainment industry. Many parties expressed their deep condolences for one of the talented Indonesian comedians. He was buried in his hometown next to his mother’s grave.

That’s all some facts about Ade Juwita’s life before he passed away. As a talented comedian from West Papua, Ade has contributed to Indonesia’s entertainment industry. His contribution through his works proved that someone that comes from an eastern province like West Papua could also get well-deserved recognition. Ade Juwita was a good example for West Papua‘s younger generation to start achieving their dreams and get the recognition they deserve.
