345 residents of the village of Tembagapura have been freed from the hands of separatist armed group, thanks to a joint operation of the Indonesia National Army and Police forces. The process of hostage evacuation that lasted around 5 hours was reportedly filled with shootings from armed criminal groups. Indonesia National Army and Police joint operation forces to save the hostages following failed negotiations led by local leaders and religious leaders. At least 62 people between the army and policemen took part in the rescue operations.
Commander XVII Cenderawasih Maj.Gen. George Elnadus Supit said the evacuation of citizen held hostage by the Armed Criminal Group was done by foot. This is because there is no access for vehicles to reach the village where the hostage takes place. National Police Chief HM Tito Karnavian mentioned hundreds of people who were held hostage by armed criminal group in Papua successfully rescued. Currently the hostages are secured in Tembagapura. 323 adults and 22 children from the village of Tembagapura are saved.
Papua Regional Police Chief Inspector General of Police, Boy Rafli Amar also expressed his gratitude to the Commander General XVII Cendrawasih and his staff who helped the release of hostages.
