The Vice President, Ma’ruf Amin’s statement gave fresh air. He said that the government’s commitment to resolving the Indonesia Papua conflict has not changed. Remain fully committed and determined to end the violent conflict in Papua.

Ma’ruf Amin’s Statement in Resolving Indonesia Papua conflict

“We are trying to figure out how this remaining conflict is a legacy of the past. ” We will look for it and We will end it no further than the distant future, ”

Ma’ruf said after receiving the Papuan Churches Fellowship Management Body at the Vice President’s Office on Wednesday (20/2020).

The Vice President’s statement is not just a hoax. It is proof that the government has mobilized much cultural strength. They also have collaborated with various elements of society in dealing with Papua.

The Government has Prioritized Soft Power in Resolving the Indonesia Papua conflict

  • One of them is by asking for the help of traditional and religious leaders to provide education. It includes the critical position of Papua within the framework of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia to people living in the interior of Papua and West Papua.
  • Religious leaders can indeed function as social actors who can influence society. This action ensures that information related to COVID-19 prevention can be understood and appropriately applied by people in the interior of Papua and West Papua.
  • The Church’s role has a vital function as a medium of socialization and peacemaker. Moreover, in Papua and West Papua, the Church is dominant. The religious leaders are also community role models. In this position their advice is heard and implemented.

For example, the government involves many religious leaders in socializing the prevention of the Indonesia Papua conflict such as COVID-19. They convey it in the religious activities routinely carried out by the community. Although most places of worship in Papua and West Papua are still closed, socialization continues with different applications. This collective handling of the pandemic has brought the economy back to life.

Papua has the Highest Economic Growth in Indonesia

Data shows, citing Bank Indonesia, that Papua is experiencing the highest economic growth in Indonesia. In the third quarter, it grew by 14.54%.

The government of Papua is trying to do the same thing. The Church’s role in Papua is significant in carrying out sustainable development in Papua. This includes building peace and prosperity. The government wants to try to explore this further.

Unity is the greatest asset of the Indonesian nation. So quoted President Joko Widodo in a speech. And indeed, unity is the key for Indonesia to be competitive and independent. It is success if its diversity is successfully managed to become a source of strength. Regarding the Indonesia Papua conflict, one of the actors who spread messages of peace and knitters of unity is the role of religious leaders.

Conclusion
