Basically, Sorong is one of the largest cities that exist in the land of Papua. It is located in West Papua Province and became the only area here that obtained city status. Due to its status as a city, Sorong is led by a Mayor. One of the Mayors of Sorong is Lamberthus Jitmau.

Jitmau is the second Mayor to lead Sorong after obtaining its status as a city. He served two terms, for a total of 10 years. Jitmau started to serve as a Mayor of Sorong City on 11 June 2012 and ended his term on 22 August 2022. Right before him, the Mayor of Sorong City was Jonathan Annes Jumame.

Lamberthus Jitmau was born in Ayamaru, on 18 Oktober 1962. His origin is from Maybrat Regency, West Papua. He is one of the most influential politicians in West Papua, especially in Sorong City. His wife, Petronela Kambuaya, is also a politician. She is a leader of the DPRD of Sorong City. 

Educational Background

In fact, the educational background of Lambertus Jitmau is quite impressive. He entered school in 1970 at YPK Jitmau Elementary School. Then, in 1976, he studied at Ransiki Public Middle School. After that, Jitmau studied in 415 Manokwari Public High School from 1978 until 1981.

Then, he graduated high school and came to Surabaya to study at STIE Indonesia from 1981 to 1984. From 1986 to 1991, Jitmau pursued a Graduate education at the Persada Indonesia University or YAI.

Aside from his amazing educational background, the career background of Lamberthus Jitmau is also impressive. He started his career as a civil servant candidate at the Division of Finance of Regional Secretariat II in 1993. 

Then, he was appointed as a civil servant of Regional Secretariat II in 1994 as the Head of the Procurement Sub Division. In 1996, Jitmau then became the Head of the Sub Division of Treasury. Especially for Equipment of the District Secretariat.

After that, Jitmau was moved from the distric government to the city government in 2000. Then, he ran in the general election for Mayor of Sorong in 2012. At that time, he was elected to lead Sorong City until 2017. After his term ended, he ran for the general election again. Then, he was elected again.

Jitmau has just ended his term as Mayor of Sorong City in 2022. He became an incumbent until the citizens elected a new mayor.

Achievement

During his tenure as a mayor, Jitmau obtained many achievements for Sorong City. His first success was the polishing of Domine Eduard Osok Sorong Airport. The airport is one of the most important places for West Papuan. Because almost all flights in West Papua have to transit at DEO Airport.

Then, Jitmau also claims that the government facilities in Sorong City are already complete in all districts. With all the facilities they have, the governments are ready to serve the citizens. 

Then, the health facilities are also complete in all 10 districts. Jitmau also changed the purpose of Sele Be Solu Hospital in Sorong City. At first, the hospital was only for leprosy patients. But now, it became the Regional General Hospital of Sorong City.

Recently, Jitmau also inaugurated the largest stadium in West Papua, the Bawela Stadium. Later, he also inaugurated the Rufei Modern Market. He claims that the market will become the new economic center of Sorong City. Then, the port toll facilities are also complete.

In conclusion, Lamberthus Jitmau has completed his duties as mayor very well. During his reign, the development of the city of Sorong was very advanced. Be it from its public services, its transportation, its economy, and others.
