Papuan Telecommunications Hero, Their Services to Equalize Digital Information in Indonesia

While fixing the telecommunication tower in Papua, these eight people might not know what the future will happen for them. They might plan for the weekend with their family, plan to rest for the day, or just want to refresh their minds after work. However, the future is not always as we predicted or want it to be.

On March 2, 2022, exactly around 03.00 WIT, located at the B3 Repeater Site Mulia District, Puncak Regency, Papua Province.

The gun attack happened by the separatist and killed those 8 Papuan telecommunications heroes. This tragedy happened when eight of them were in the process of fixing the telecommunication tower in the mountainous area.

They warned the civilians in the area to stay clear to keep themselves from being harmed. The attackers were five armed groups that had links with the other attacks the other day.

The eight technicians killed in that tragedy were Bona Simanulang, Jamaluddin, Renal Tagase, Bili Gadi Balen, Syahrul Nurdiansyah, Eko Satyansah, Bebi Tabuni, and Ibo. With Nelson Sarira, the only one who survived. These people need to be remembered as the remembrance of humanity and peace in the land of Papua.

The People Honor Them

The government decided to commemorate their services and efforts in life to remember them and the tragedy that occurred at the time. Johnny G. Plate, as the government’s representative and Minister of Communication and Information, is the one who gives these honors to them.

On Thursday, March 17th, 2022, Johnny claimed that this is to honor their services and sacrifices on their part to develop digit connectivity in a remote area. As a result, their name would live on in the minds of the nation and its citizens as a symbol of peace for all of us.

He also said that their contribution is not just merely the distribution of telecommunication in that area but also in developing Indonesia.

Johnny also expressed his feeling of anger and sadness towards this tragedy. He also said that the service of these people is to serve the country so it can rise upwards and become equal with other forward countries in the world.

Especially in a remote area, with some difficulties and challenges. The development becomes more and more difficult to do properly.

This Minister of Communication and Information also appreciated the workers who devoted themselves to this job. They have noble tasks for the Papuan people, and these actions towards them need to be condemned.

Wrapping Up

To be able to get equal use of digital telecommunication is something to be thrived on. These Papuan telecommunications heroes have fought the separatist in their time of service to the nation. Even though their service has ended, we can always remember them. And also hope for peace always to be encouraged in every place. With peace, we will live longer and happier.
