PON event And the Positive Values from West Papua

PON or the National Sports Week was held in the west Papua province and other areas around it. This huge event was held from 2 – 15 of October 2021.

The event was successfully held and it reflects the strength of the unity value in Indonesia as a diverse country. The locations or venues are spread in some cities.

Furthermrke, the COVID-19 pandemic which still exists make the officials need the extra efforts. One of them is by making the tight health protocol rules.

This successful event in west Papua and other areas also get the appreciations from so many parties. One of them is from the vice president of Indonesia, Ma’ruf Amin.

The Speech from Vice President in Enembe

In the Lukas Stadium of Enembe, Jayapura, the Vice President of Indonesia gave his speech to close the PON event. He said that this success reflects the good unity in the country.

It feels so special since Indonesia is a diverse country that has various races, culture, religions, and so on. In the Papua land, they were successfully showing about solidarity.

Solidarity, sportivity, and unity are the key to grab the success. It must be kept and maintained together.

Torang samua basodara is a sentence which is taken from the local language of west Papua. It has a strong meaning that all of us is a family.

The vice president also said about the great achievement Made by the contestants, especially Papua as a host. It got 93 gold medals and reached the fourth position.

That achievement is a sign that the west Papua and the places around it have became an elite power for the national sports. That is why; this talent must be kept properly.

Furthermore, it needs to be developed in all of the aspects to speed up the wealth building in that province. That also an evidence that Papua is not only rich, but also has a lot of talents.

Sport Talents May Increase the Wealth of a Place

The vice president of Indonesia also said that these talents may bring the good progress for the province’s prosperity. The natural resources are able to give the huge advantages because of that.

In the same occasion, he also stated the appreciation due to the high dedication made by the people and government in Papua. The public there also have the huge role for the PON.

The National Sport Weeks in the west Papua and around had the high difficulty level. It is especially related to the restriction due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

For him, it was the hardest PON which can be held. However, the officials and people there are able to make it which was close to perfect.

That is why; he congratulated all the parties which were involved. That showed that this province is not only in line with the other ones, but more for several aspects.

To close his speech, the vice president also congratulated the whole athletes. They have been playing a great and fair game to see.

He also said thank you to the Youth and Sport Ministry and the whole journalists. They made the event was able to be enjoyed by the whole people of Indonesia.

  1. Held in the second most luxurious stadium in Indonesia

In addition to Gelora Karno stadium (GBK), Lukas Enembe stadium which hosted the opening event of PON XX Papua 2021 is also one of the grandest stadiums in the country .

Noken is a traditional bag native to this province That is designated as an Intangible Cultural heritage by UNESCO. The idea to make it as a merchandise is by a reason.

The establishment of noken as official merchandise also moved the creative economy There. Usually noken bags for men are smaller in size and are used to store matches.

Meanwhile, noken bags for women have a larger size that is used to carry plantation products. It is the handicrafts of indigenous Papuans. That comes in the form of bags from the woven bark of biyik trees.

Another fact is that this province sent the biggest delegates as well. For about 921 athletes were sent and 1300 officials were taking a part there. That is why; the west Papua and the areas around could held that event successfully.
