The Enchanting Rumberpon Island: The Beauty of West Papuan Sea

Enchanting is one perfect word for Rumberpon Island due to its beautiful beach and surrounding vibe. Various dazzling animals also become the unique attraction of the island which is located in the north of Wondama Bay Regency. The Broad Rumberpon 

Rumberpon is in the Rumberpon Island, a district in Wondama Bay, West Papua, Indonesia. The central authority is located in Yembekiri Village, and the district is in the northern and has the largest area, which includes most parts of the main island. The island is 2,984.2 km2 wide and covers six villages, including Kaprus, Reyob, Senebuai, Yarmatum, Yembekiri, and Yomakan.

Long Sand Beach by the Dazzling Underwater 

The breathtaking Rumberpon Island cannot be separated from its beautiful beach called Pasir Panjang Beach or Long Sand Beach. The white quartz beach is certainly named after the length; it is approximately 6,000 meters long with a relatively shallow sea ground profile ranging from 100 meters to the cliff. The beach is quite clean and smooth as you’ll see no beach corals where you’ll definitely be free to enjoy your walk for a whole day. 

The Long Sand Beach, accompanied by a medium level of wave tide, is a nice place where you can enjoy snorkeling, waterskiing, windsurfing, swimming, and fishing. If you are a big fan of photography, the beach is also a perfect spot to capture unforgettable moments in your lifetime. 

Another attraction of the Rumberpon island is when you look a little bit farther: the dazzling West Papuan Sea. The seawater is generally clear and fresh, and if you go deeper into the sea, you’ll find the world-class reef flat mushrooming around the island. Sea fish is normally found here, too, but what makes the sea more interesting is that you’ll find sea turtles and dugongs.

Mangrove Forest and Unique Animals 

After being charmed by the beauty at sea, you can also go camping and explore Rumberpon Island’s nature. Around the seashore, you’ll find exotic mangrove trees and broad savanna, which add to the rustic awesomeness of the island. What makes it more exciting is the unique animals you’ll be able to see around the area. If you’re lucky, you’ll find the rare deer (Cervus timorensis) or also known as Rusa Timor

You can also go bird-watching to look for the white-bellied sea eagle around the shore and Kuskus, the lovable nocturnal mammal around the forest. It is amazing how the sound of nature and beautiful animals could make your relaxing day on Rumberpon Island.

Special Economic Zone 

Like Triton Bay in Kaimana Regency, the Rumberpon Island in Wondama Bay Regency has been designed for the Tourism Special Economic Zone (or Kawasan Ekonomi Khusus Pariwisata) as proposed by the head of the tourism board at Tourism and Culture Office of West Papua. The government considers that the island has numerous tourist attractions, and the planning still works in progress. 

Tourism Special Economic Zone is a tourism zone specifically managed for the tourism business sector to support entertainment, recreation, meeting, exhibition, and other related programs. The previous Head of Tourism and Culture Office of Wondama Bay, Frans Mosmafa, mentioned that the plan requires at least 200 hectares area to build various facilities and other supporting infrastructures in the island.

The Rumberpon Island Wondama Bay indeed shares numerous tourism potentials, including natural tourism, like beach and shore, cultural tourism, and tourism with special interest. Thus, the local tourism office claims the Rumberpon Island and surrounding areas as tourism strategic area III. 

Accessibility

The Rumberpon Island is located north of Wondama Bay Regency, while it is also close to its neighboring Manokwari Regency. To visit the island, you can simply start from Manokwari Regency by water by going for a ship that takes you 5.5 up to 6 six six-hour voyages. If you’re into a road trip, you can start from Manokwari to Ransiki, which takes you about 3 hours trip. From Ransiki, you can directly go to Rumberpon Island by longboat for 2 hours ride.
