Tablasupa Papua: Indonesia’s Tourism Village Worth Exploring

Over the past few years, the Indonesian government built tourist villages in several provinces in Papua through the Ministry of Tourism. Of the many existing tourist villages, one of them is Tablasupa. Read the information below to find out more about the tourist village of Tablasupa Papua.

About Tablasupa Village

Tablasupa Papua is located in the northern part of Mount Cyclop

Tablasupa Papua village is in the Depapre district, Jayapura regency. This village is to the north of Cyclops Mountain. If you depart from Sentani airport, you have to travel for approximately one hour by car or motorbike to arrive at this village.

The name of the village of Tablasupa itself is the identity and pride of the Tepera people. One of the oldest tribes in Papua who have long lived on the coast of Jayapura.

In addition, based on the explanation from the Tablasupa village tour guide, the development of Tablasupa as a tourism village puts forward topics that are closely related to local communities, namely the harmony of nature and culture.

What Tourists Can Do in Tablasupa

There are many things that tourists can do when visiting Tablasupa. Some of them are as follows:

Visit the Cenderawasih Observation Sites

The Cenderawasih observation spot is one of the attractions that the management of this tourist village relies on. The bird-watching locations in this village are divided into 3 points.

Some of them are Amai Beach and Tablasupa forest. The three location points are close enough to the main road, so tourists don’t need to worry about access.

The Nature Lovers Group (KPA) in Tablasupa village, named Amomai, is the caretaker and manager of the three existing observation points. There are around 20 birds of paradise in Tablasupa. One of them is the type of Cenderawasih Raja.

The best time for tourists interested in observing this exotic Cenderawasih bird is in the afternoon (around 15.00 WIT) or early morning (around 05.00 – 09.00 WIT). At these times, the birds come out of their nests to find food or prepare to return to the nest to sleep.

Tourists can use binoculars so they can observe the birds in this area. In addition, if you want to take photos, you are advised to use a camera with a tripod and a long telephoto. In addition, several things should not be done when watching birds, namely:

  • Using perfume. This is because birds will run away and stay away if they smell a strong odor that is foreign to them
  • Make noise when observing at close range. They will perceive the noise as a threat.

Meanwhile, the entry fee to be able to observe the birds is not necessarily the same from one observation location to another. Some sites charge whatever the visitor is willing to give. Other locations set rates ranging from 200-300 thousand rupiah per person.

Snorkeling and Diving

Tablasupa Papua provides underwater tours

This village has about 50 snorkeling spots and 20 diving spots for tourists who want to observe the coral reef ecosystem around Tablasupa. In general, the spots are managed by Tablasupa youths. They are members of a community called Ombang Scuba Diving.

You can rent the equipment with prices starting from 500,000 IDR per person. If you want to use a guide, you must pay an additional fee of around 350,000 IDR. Guides can guide tourists to dive to a depth of 30 meters.

Sightseeing on the Beach

Tablasupa Papua has beautiful beaches

Another type of attraction available to tourists is the beach, namely Amai Beach or Harlem Beach. The two beaches will usually be crowded with visitors during school holidays.

Amai beach itself is about 5 km from Depapre. This beach has white sand and is the meeting point of fresh water with seawater.

Meanwhile, Harlem Beach, which is also in Tablasupa Papua, is one of the prettiest beaches in Jayapura. Many tourists come to this beach to witness the beautiful sunset.
