The History of Islamic Kingdoms in Papua

Indonesia is the world’s largest Muslim country, with a diverse religious population. Java Island is home to the majority of Indonesian Muslims and Islamic Kingdoms. However, Papua Island has a small Muslim population, and there are a few Islamic kingdoms in Papua islands.

Papua has a long history of Islamic civilization, although having fewer Muslims than the island of Java. The easternmost island of Indonesia has a long history of thriving Islamic religion. The presence of Islamic kingdoms in Papua attests to this.

1. Waigeo Kingdom

There are also Makbon, Moraid, and Sausapor districts. One of the most powerful Muslim personalities lives in the Salawati kingdom. He was King Muhammad Aminuddin from 1900 to 1918. This Kingdom is the one of the Islamic kingdoms in Papua.

4. Sailolof Kingdom

Sailolof Kingdom is located in Raja Ampat, Indonesia, south of Salawati. This Kingdom currently populated by Seget districts in Berau, Misool, and Sorong. The Sailolof Kingdom’s government system used many terms, one of them named Fun Kalana.

5. Fatagar Kingdom

Fatagar Kingdom is located in Fakfak Regency, West Papua. This Islamic kingdom is one of three traditional kingdoms on the Onin peninsula. The Fatagar Kingdom’s ruler is now a political figure, King Said Arobi Uswanas.

Tunasgain mosque, which is estimated to be over 400 years old, is one of the historical remnants found in Fakfak.

6. Rumbati Kingdom

The Kingdom of Rumbati, like the Kingdom of Fatagar, is one of three traditional kingdoms that exist on the Onin Peninsula. Patipi is one of the most well-known kings of this kingdom. The second kingdom was led by King Patipi, who was able to introduce Islam to the people of Rumbati.

7. Kowiai or Namatota Kingdom

Namatota Kingdom, also known as the Kowiai Kingdom, is located in Kaimana Regency, West Papua. The Old Ulan was the first Kowiai king, followed by Lamarora. King Lamatora also spread Islam in the Sapai Kokas region.

8. Aiduma Kingdom

Aiduma kingdom is located in the province of West Papua, Aiduma island, Kaimana regency. From history, this kingdom excited at 13-16 centuries. Abd al-Majid Jamal Ad-Din headed this kingdom at 1872 until 1904

9. Kaimana Kingdom
