The land infrastructures in the West Papua are becoming the main program done by the government. One of them is the trans – papua highway project.
Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono said that his party was committed to finish the construction of that important road.
The total length of this road is 3462 km long. Now, there is 183 km part which is not built yet And Basuki as the minister meets so many parties to speed up this project.
One of them is with the regent. In an occasion, he requested that there be an acceleration of the completion of the road from Keerom Regency to Batom District in Bintang Mountain District
According to home, President Joko Widodo, so-called Jokowi, had a strong commitment to build West Papua and around. It can be seen from how often he came to that land.
In that every visit, Jokowi always checks every thing one by one, especially the infrastructures. Those are like the roads, housings, up to the water facilities.
The special ones are the border road, highway, and the cross – border. That is why; the whole parties involved in this project must do everything properly and on time.
A Project with the Huge Budget
It cannot be denied that the land infrastructure, such as highway, in the West Papua is a project which needs the huge budget. Everything has been listed.
The List of Budget Implementation (DIPA) of the Ministry of PUPR for the 2022 budget year has been decided with the amount of Rp 100.59 trillion. That is a big one.
As directed by the Ministry of Finance, 5 percent of the total budget must be saved in anticipation of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, everything depends on the further situation.
If the pandemic, especially in the West Papua finish in the first semester of this year (2022), that saving can be used to make more infrastructure building.
That plan based on an event which has been held some times ago. Yes, it is the PON or the national sports weeks where all the good preparations make this province is elevated.
The successful event makes that region is now as same as the others in Indonesia. Although it was hampered by Covid-19, the Ministry of PUPR has tried everything.
As the result, he succeeded in ensuring the readiness of infrastructure in that land to support the implementation of PON XX Papua this year.
Some infrastructures built for that event are like the Youtefa bridge, cross – border center, and for sure the sport venues. The solid cooperation was also built in that time.
It is especially with the local government, such as in the West Papua. The aim is to fix and make some Tourist’s destinations there are better than before.
It Is Hoped that the Project can make the Prices Stable
The trans – papua is planned to have the length of 3,462 km and the construction is still on progress until now. This road is built from the Domberai culture area, Sorong, West Papua, etc.
It spreads until the Bukit Anim Ha in Merauke. As is known, this infrastructure development is included in the national strategic project (PSN) and the National Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2020-2024.
As quoted by the Indonesian Republic Secretarial Cabinet website, the special staff of President, Billi Mambrasar, said that start from 2015, Jokowi takes it seriously.
The president want the accelerated development to be done in the West Papua and the regions around It. The development of land in fact has some advantages such as:
- Increase the prosperity
It is hoped that the local people prosperity can increase because of the better infrastructure, especially the land one. How is it possible? It is because the roads make so many areas are connected properly. It is not only between the West Papua and other provinces, but also between the districts, villages, etc.
- Reduce the omnipresence index
Besides that, it is also hoped that the highway is able to reduce the omnipresence index, poverty, and the Equitable Development in Indonesia. That means that there is more possibilities to open the isolated places in that province. That is why; it becomes the main project since it has so many benefits.
The Progress of the Roads Development in West Papua
Nowadays, the trans Papua project has been reaching 3446 km long. That will be still continued together with the school, universities, border center, and other buildings constructions.
The local and central government have been visiting so many places since June 2021. Those are in the West Papua, 66 different districts, 278 villages, and 15 regencies.
Besides checking the land infrastructures progress, they also check for some programs. The examples are like the millennial farmer, Vaccination, public discussion, etc.
Before, this province was maybe left behind. However, it is hoped that now West Papua can be in the same position like the other regions in Indonesia.
