West Papua Proud of Inspirational Youth

The event was held at the House of Aquarius, Sorong, West Papua, more than 200 indigenous Papuan youth. Mainly from the villages around Seget, Klamono, and Salawati, Sorong, Papua, attended the leadership and self-confidence training.

Participants who were present aged between 18-35 years were eager to follow all the topics of the training. Topics on leadership, communication, innovation, and creativity create constructive initiatives in the community.

This event was initiated by Kitong Bisa, a humanitarian organization that focuses on the education and training of indigenous Papuan children.

Alan Ambrauw, Project Officer of Kitong Bisa, the main objective of the training is to improve the skills and skills of indigenous Papuan children so that they can be more creative and competitive.

Kitong Bisa is a non-profit educational institution consisting of 9 branch learning centers in Papua and West Papua. The organization is managed by 158 volunteers, most of whom are native Papuan children.

They provide education to 1,100 students informally. The founder of Kitong Bisa is Isaskar Mambrasar, a man who has devoted himself more than 30 years to teaching and educating indigenous Papuan children on Yapen Island, Papua.

Currently, Kitong Bisa is part of the Inspirational Young Papua Movement, which was initiated by 23 outstanding Papuan youths and women, one of whom is Billy Mambrasar, CEO of Kitong Bisa, son of Isaskar Mambrasar.

Meanwhile, Inspirational Young Papua members are spread across various countries in the world, such as the United States, Britain, and Canada. Most of them are currently residing and working in Papua and West Papua.

The Inspirational Young Papua Movement was just initiated in early September 2019. They will join the International Papuan Education conference in Los Angeles, USA, later this year. President Joko Widodo expressed his support for this movement.

Billy is an ITB alumnus who completed his master’s at the Australian National University (ANU). Meanwhile, Marta is a prospective female pilot who is currently accepted at Citilink Airlines. He was educated at Nelson Aviation College, New Zealand.

Meanwhile, Edward is an oil and gas entrepreneur who has exported to China and Russia. And Steve is a student from West Papua who is currently completing his master’s at the Jakarta Defense University.

These four young people are representatives of hundreds of young Papuans and on behalf of their colleagues, share stories about the dreams of these young people to build a better Papuan land.

Proud Sons and Daughters of West Papua

According to Billy, the establishment of the forum is to accommodate young Papuan children who have works. Later, those who are members of the forum will move to motivate other Papuan youths to come forward.

Building West Papua, he said, must be done through a togetherness approach. Billy continued; the government must listen to what the Papuans need. After that, the Papuan people should not only be spectators. They also need to be involved.

Meanwhile, Martha hopes that the government will support and synergize with the programs for young people who are members of this forum. Martha told her story, after graduating from pilot education, she plans to introduce the world of aviation to Papuan children.

Inspirational Young Papua is a collaborative movement of the Achievement Young people of Papua and West Papua, to inspire, and encourage the acceleration of welfare development in Papua that is human-focused and driven by humans.
