Introducing West Papua Arts and Cultures to the World Through Writing

Komunitas Blogger Papua, also known as Blogger Cenderawasih, is a group of bloggers. They come from various places in West Papua. They decided to form a community because they have something in common. They do something positive and are willing to share them on the internet.

Their activities cover many fields. These include information and technology, arts and cultures, environment, sports, and health. They also write many things about information and activities related to Papua. One thing certain, They write everything based on facts and originality is a must.

As a writing community, they accommodate Papuan youths who have talents and interests in the internet. They provide education, coaching, and development. They also act as an interaction and communication medium among all young people in the community and across Indonesia.

The internet has been around for quite some time. But, for Papuan people, the internet was a new thing. As the internet brings so many positive things alongside its negatives, the young people saw this as a chance to introduce the technology. They want everyone to have enough knowledge about the internet.

To achieve that dream, they plan to educate all youths, students, and people in Papua about the internet, especially blogging. They see the internet as a learning material that can advance Indonesia, especially Papua, even more.

Introducing the internet and teach the Papuan how to use it is one of their plans. While introducing Papuan arts and culture to people across Indonesia and the world is their other plan.

Story of Formation

Papua Blogger Community was born on October 29, 2011. At that same time, they chose the very name they have used to date. In the beginning, Alldo F. Mooy created a Facebook group. The first name they chose for the group was Papua Jayapura Blogger Community.

After a while, the group attracted some people. Those people include Yudhi F. Maulana from Manokwari. He was a blogger and was studying outside Papua. Starting from that moment, the community was formed. The idea was supported by the other members of the group. They also supported the idea of changing the name into Komunitas Blogger Papua.

After so much supports from the members, they created a fan page, Twitter account, and blog. After several months, the number of their members increase. Those new members are from across and outside West Papua. They heard the name from Facebook and Twitter.

On March 17th, 2012, the members from Jayapura held a meet and greet. They aimed at knowing each other and getting closer. Eleven people joined the first event.

Although the event was considered casual, it resulted in some agreement and plans for the community. Those were October 29 was chosen as the formation date of the community. They proposed the draft of articles of association and the formation of the management team for the community.

On May 30th, they created a website. The creation was with the help of Abang Mirham as a volunteer of TIK Papua. He was also an advisor for the community. But, the website changed into another domain name in 2017 after a long vacuum.

A Sneak Peek at Their Activities

When visiting their website, they categorize their articles into several topics. Those are lifestyle, reviews, news reports, campaigns, and podcasts. They divide the lifestyle topic into music, culinary, technology, and traveling. So, they write everything that happens in Papua related to those topics.
