The West Papua Football Club that You Must Know

West Papua is one of the provinces in Indonesia which is located at the western tip of the island of Papua. Papua has many achievements, one of which is in football. This area has several famous football clubs. These are West Papua football clubs located in each district.

List of Football Clubs in West Papua by Region

West Papua Province was previously known as West Irian Jaya. The province has twelve districts and one city. Almost every city has a football club, so there are several stadium buildings in the area. Here are the West Papuan football clubs you need to know:

1. Perseman Manokwari Football Club 

Perseman Manokwari is an abbreviation of Persatuan Sepakbola Manokwari. This club has been around since 1950. This club has played in the Premier Division Liga Indonesia since 2007. 

The presence of Perseman Manokwari in various games has also strengthened the Indonesian National Football Team until now. The club was once nicknamed the white snake and black pearl of the East.

2. Persewon Wondama Football Club 

West Papua also has a football club called Persewon Wondama. As the name suggests, this club has its base in Teluk Wondama Regency. It is said to be a professional football club because it is currently playing in the West Papua Zone League 3.

As one of the West Papua Football Club, Persewon Wondama has a supporter named Wondamania. This club has played against several well known clubs such as Arema Malang and Persis Solo.

3. Persiss Sorong Football Club

Persiss Sorong is an abbreviation of Persatuan Sepak Bola Indonesia Seluruh Sorong. This club comes from Sorong Regency, West Papua. Like the Persewon Wondama club, Persiss Sorong also plays in League 3 West Papua.

Since its establishment until now, Persiss Sorong has received several achievements. In 1987, this football club was crowned the winner of the Soeratin Cup. Then in 2018, Persiss Sorong managed to become the champion in League 3 West Papua. 

4. Persifa Fak Fak Football Club

Persifa Fak Fak is located in Fakfak Regency, West Papua Province, Indonesia. Like several other West Papuan football clubs, Persifa Fak Fak is now playing in League 3 West Papua. The November 16 stadium is the headquarters of the club.

Persifa Fak Fak also known as Persatuan Sepak Bola Indonesia Fak Fak is owned by PT Fak Fak Indosport. This club has a loyal supporter named Fakmania or Persifa Fak Fak Mania. Persifa Fak Fak has two nicknames, the first is the Papuan Wolf and the second is The Black Purple.

5. Persegaf Arfak Mountains Football Club

Persegaf Arfak Mountains is a West Papua Football Club. This club is from the Arfak Mountains Regency. In 2021, Persegaf Arfak Mountains managed to enter the semi-finals in the Papua zone. Currently, the club is included in League 3 West Papua.

Persegaf Arfak Mountains is a club owned by Askab PSSI Arfak Mountains. The club has its headquarters at Irai Stadium. Persegaf has the nickname of the Laskas Tumbuk Tanah. 

6. Persitelbin Teluk Bintuni Football Club 

Persitelbin is a football club from Teluk Bintuni Regency, West Papua, Indonesia. The club is headquartered in SP IV Manimeri Stadium. Persitelbin has been established since 19 years ago, 2003 to be exact. 

Persitelbin is currently also playing in League 3 West Papua. The owner of Persitelbin is Askab PSSI Teluk Bintuni. Like other football clubs, Persitelbin also has a nickname, namely Ombak Tiga.

Those are some of the West Papua Football Club that have their own history and still exist today. Apart from some of the clubs mentioned above, there are other clubs from West Papua such as Persikos Sorong City Football Club, Persikos Sorong Selatan Football Club etc.
