The name of Adolf Kabo is already familiar to Indonesian football lovers. Adolf Kabo is a legendary football player who brings Indonesian football to its glory in the world-class football championship.

Adolf Kabo was born in Manokwari, West Papua, on March 3, 1960. He started his career in football by joining the Navy Football Association (PSAL) in the early 80s in Manokwari.

His name became public conversations and famous when he joined the Irian Jaya KNPI (Komite Nasional Pemuda Indonesia). Later, his achievements while defending the Irian Jaya KNPI team in Jakarta made his name stick out even more in the community.

In football competitions, Adolf Kabo has quite capable individual skills. As a striker, he is known to have a fearsome attack. People often call him the Goal-getter.

  • 1984

In 1984, Adolf Kabo joined the football team Perseman Manokwari (Persatuan Sepakbola Manokwari). Adolf Kabo’s career at Perseman Manokwari began when coach Chris Leihitu was fascinated by his talent. 

Together with Perseman Manokwari, Adolf Kabo competed in the PSSI competition for the Irian Jaya region in Biak. In the final match, Adolf Kabo’s team, Perseman Manokwari, faced Persatuan Sepakbola Biak Sekitarnya (PSBS) Biak.

In that game, Adolf Kabi scored a single goal that brought his team to win the competition. This victory later led Perseman Manokwari to participate in the Division I competition in Bekasi, West Java, and then Banda Aceh.

As a record, Adolf Kabo played with the Perseman Manokwari football team until 1988.

  • 1985

In 1985, Adolf Kabo was selected to strengthen the Irian Jaya PON team. Together with Elly Rumaropen, Mettu Dwaramuri, Max Krey, and Sergius Fonataba, Adolf Kabo successfully brought the gold medal. At that time, the Irian Jaya PON team defeated the North Sumatra PON team on penalties 3-2.

The same year, Adolf Kabo was also selected to be part of the Indonesian national team. He competed in the United Cup (Piala Perserikatan) with other national team players in Brunei Darussalam.

  • 1986

In 1986 Adolf Kabo was still trusted as part of the Indonesian national team. This time he became the main player of the Garuda team for the Asian Games competition.

In the match against Qatar at the Asian Games, Adolf Kabo scored the only goal that saved Indonesia from qualifying for the group stage. In the next Asian Games match, Adolf Kabo and his teammates managed to advance to the quarter-finals after a penalty shootout against the United Arab Emirates.

Unfortunately, at the Asian Games, this time, Adolf Kabo and his team failed to advance their game to the semifinals. Sad to say that the Garuda team stopped in the quarter-finals. Nevertheless, qualifying for the quarter-finals is an outstanding achievement for Indonesian football.

1987

In the final match, Indonesia was face-to-face against Malaysia. In that nerve-wracking game, the Indonesian national football team defeated Malaysia by 1-0. For this victory, Indonesia got its very first gold medal for football in the Sea Games.

The 1987 Sea Games was a historic event for Indonesian football. Through this victory, Adolf Kabo and his teammates were called The Boys of 1987 by people all over Indonesia.

Adolf Kabo Died in 2021

Adolf Kabo, the legendary Indonesian player from Papua, died on April 4, 2021. Adolf Kabo died at the age of 61 years due to a stroke he suffered. Before his death, Adolf Kabo received treatment at the Manokwari Marine Marine Hospital, West Papua.Adolf Kabo’s death has brought deep sorrow to Indonesian football. As he had a significant contribution to Indonesian football’s glory in the past.
