Archbishop Desmond Tutu West Papua

Desmond Tutu was born on October 7, 1931 Klerksdorp South Africa. He died at the age of 90 December 26, 2021 Cape Town, South Africa. In his life, this archbishop has gained several honors for his activity such as Templeton Prize in the year of 2013, Presidential Medal of Freedom in the year of 2009 and also big achievement as a Nobel Prize winner in 1984. 

His parents were Xhosa and Tswana. His father is a teacher in a school where he gets the education. Desmond Tutu West Papua was wanting to pursue a medical career, however because of the lack of economic status, he then decided to become a school teacher. He was appointed as teacher in 1955. 

Desmond Tutu then enrolled in St. Peter’s Theological College in Johannesburg in the year of 1961 and was ordained the title Anglican priest. He moved to London in 1962 and obtained an M.A from King’s College London in 1966. 

Desmond Tutu then served as an associate director of the World Council of Churches in 1972 until 1975. In 1975, he was appointed as the dean of St. Mary’s Cathedral in Johannesburg. Making him the first Black South African that could hold the position. And then in 1976 until 1978, he held the position of bishop of Lesotho.

In his years, he declared the propagated idea of the Rainbow Nation in South Africa. Nelson Mandela in 1996, appointed him as the head of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. This commission is to investigate any allegations of violence towards human rights in the apherteid era. 

Desmond Tutu decided to retire in 2966 and become archbishop emeritus. In the year of 2010, he declared his intention to leave public life and continue his work with the Elders. Elders is a group of international leaders that formed in 2007. This group is made to promote the resolution for conflict and solving the problems for the people around the world.

He was accepted as the general secretary of the South African Council of Churches alsco active as the spokesperson regarding the matter of black South African. He was also engaged in some role of apherteid. Tutu uses non-violence protest to engage with the people so it could encourage the problem with South Africa. He was at his peak in 1984 and received the Nobel Prize for Peace for his activity and action for the better country in South Africa and the world.
