West Papua needs a lot of development, but what sectors are the most important to do first? This priority somehow hasn’t become a mature calculation from the government there because several times, the development looks like it doesn’t match is vital.
To date, almost all areas in Papua are in the agricultural sector and few of them have taken advantage of technological developments. As a result, the resulting product is not enough to maximize their potential to always develop and be more successful.
This province seems to have many issues regarding finance and development. The basic thing from all of this is that it results in the low income experienced by the population, while many other needs. So in our opinion, the strategic step is to develop education.
With adequate education, this will be a major source of growth. While widespread poverty still occurs in some development disciplines, now people seem to be asking, how to increase this small rate of development?
The Concept of Development in West Papua
Here we can see that this concept of developing world for all Papuans is still stuck. While the need for an adequate proportion of life, now there is a substantial amount that becomes an obstacle for the area to grow and develop from the beginning.
The concept of development in Papua must think about social life and habits, what are the technical performances of the local community, and as much as possible increase the literacy substance of the local. Development is not only building but also an investment.
The meaning of this investment word is, there is nothing wrong if residents temporarily leave West Papua, even in terms of high out-migration. Later it will be an assistance to improve the standard of living and development in Papua there.
While the current condition is still played by a lot of unskilled actors, those who have studied outside their homeland will become the vast majority aspects for growth rate. In many cases, the underdevelopment area must have an incentive to develop.
We dare to convey this statement because we see widespread poverty that still has to be faced. Therefore, perhaps the government there can carry out strategic program development and authentically respond to what the people need.
In What Sector that West Papua Still Need Improvement
Reflecting on this, we know that several programs might become new ideas. But it would be even better if we knew what the main needs of the Papuan people were. Some of the development needed is in the following sectors:
- Culture
Development in the field of culture may often be considered trivial. But for an area that is still thick with cultural elements, this is what is needed. Development in the field of culture can be in the form of a museum or cultural heritage.
- Literacy and Education
One of the obstacles for the people of West Papua to develop is due to the low level of literacy and education. The difficulty of the community to go to school and the small number of schools make this problem a common thing there.
- Freedom & Security
Aware it or not, there is still a slight impression of freedom and security that is felt by the people of Papua. This social condition can be overcome by the distribution of troops there. Not to mention the problem of social inequality.
- Technology
Many have asked whether technology is a development sector needed by the Papuan people. But to provide equality of development among all regions in Indonesia, technological development must still be carried out.
- Modes of Transportation and Highways
One of the most important development sectors that are currently in great need is roads and modes of transportation. To date, only 1/3 of the roads in the western province of Papua have adequate road access, and also transportation.
The Program that Could be Practiced to Develop West Papua
From all these needs, perhaps the Indonesian and local governments have already thought about what would be the right steps for that development. And the program that has been implemented in the construction of roads in the part of the Trans Papua project.
The issue of security may not be the focus of this province, but it also has several strategic steps. But other programs that can be followed for the development of Papua in the future can be started by increasing the eco-tourism sector there.
As the name implies, there is the word eco which means environment. Although I don’t feel that the construction is being carried out there, with Eco’s words, beauty is the main thing. So that other things such as infrastructure are not part of the focus.
Another program that can be implemented in collaboration. The Papuan government there can try to market their products which are known to have good quality independently. This program is worth trying because the issue of the distribution of equality is better.
The potential to develop from Papua is huge if we look at the available resources and the lifestyle of the local community. But now one of the problems is because the less strategic development sector is happening in West Papua.
