The missions are:

  • to improve the community’s economy through developing agricultural and fishery technology
  • developing the tourism and maritime sectors and creative industries based on local resources.
  • to maintain and advance cultural arts and local wisdom values also refers to this tourism.

Regional Regulation to Support Tourism Management

To support and maximize tourism management, the Regional Government of Kaimana Regency has issued a number of regulations, includingPeraturan Daerah Nomor 1 Tahun 2021 concerning Tourism Management.

There is also an SK Bupati Kaimana Nomor 430/82/VII/2021 concerning Establishing a Tourism Village and Peraturan Bupati Nomor 26 Tahun 2022 concerning implementing a Tourism Business.

Triton Bay Has Potential that is No Less Great than Raja Ampat

Potential of Triton Bay tourist area

The Triton Bay region has the same potential as Raja Ampat. Still, it requires more adequate infrastructure to support tourism, according to Ruland R Sarwom, head of the West Papua Tourism Bureau in Manokwari.

Hence, in order to maximize efforts to develop the Triton Bay area, the regional government needs cooperation from outside parties like Bank Indonesia.

In addition to Kaimana, the regencies of Fakfak, Manokwari, and Teluk Wondama also have the potential for maritime tourism; these will thereafter be developed gradually. For ecotourism potential, West Papua has a number of destinations in the Arfak Mountains and South Manokwari Regencies.

Currently, the Provincial Government of West Papua is revising the development master plan and the West Papua tourism development master plan as a whole. The previous master plan still covered six districts, including Raja Ampat, which is now part of the Southwest Papua Province. Efforts to revise the provincial tourism development master plan are collaborating with Bandung Institute of Technology experts.

The development of the Triton Bay tourist area is a new hope for the next tourism destination in the land of Papua. This, of course, will further advance Papua’s tourism and economic sectors.
