It is already common knowledge that The Papuan People’s Council (MRP) is a very important institution for the Papuan indigenous people. That is why when there is a vacant position, someone has to fill it immediately. So, after experiencing a vacancy, Doren Wakerkwa officially serves as Acting Secretary of MRP.
The Acting Governor of Papua, Ridwan Rumasukun, was the one who appointed Wakerkwa to fill this position. Rumasukun considered that Wakerkwa would give it his best as a Papuan indigenous person. Later, he will provide public services to the community in 5 customary areas in Papua Province.
The Inauguration of The New Autonomous Region (DOB) of Papua
The appointment of Doren Wakerkwa as acting secretary of the Papuan People’s Council is related to the vacancy of three important positions in MRP. This is because three Primary High Leaders in MRP have to do other tasks. So, they need to leave their position in the council.
This is related to establishing the New Autonomous Regions of Papua Province. That is Highlands Papua, Central Papua, and South Papua. Meanwhile, another new autonomous region is a division of West Papua Province. The New Autonomous Region of West Papua Province is Southwest Papua.
The position of the executor in the new autonomous region is indeed important. However, MRP is one of the councils that has actively spoken out for the Papuan people. So, this vacancy must be filled immediately. Wakerkwa was one of those people who earned the trust to fill this position.
“As a council who became the cultural representation of the indigenous Papuans, we will follow up on what has been recorded,” he said.
Through a statement that he wrote, Wakerkwa expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the leaders and members of MRP. Certainly, providing services to the five indigenous peoples that exist in Papua Province is not easy. Moreover, they must hear the voice of all the people fairly.
In addition, the leaders and members of the MRP also hoped that MRP could realize everything that had been recorded. This was conveyed by Yoel Luiz Mulait, Deputy Chairman I of the MRP.
The Public Service Activities in MRP
However, the public service activities in MRP and the service authority to the community have still not reached their maximum capacity. Mulait said that the public services in the council-run normally after the term of office extension. But, the MRP has been unable to carry out its powers due to cost problems.
He conveyed this at a coordination meeting with the leaders and the Papuan People’s Council members. This meeting was held sometime after Wakerkwa officially served as an acting secretary. Leaders and members of the religious, customary, and women’s working groups were also present at the meeting.
With the appointment of Wakerkwa as the Acting Secretary, it is hoped that the MRP will bring about much more positive changes to the Papuan. Moreover, the MRP will play an important role in the general election in 2024. So, it is clear that MRP must prioritize the community.
The reason is that the MRP is responsible for considering and approving the candidate pairs for governor and deputy governor. They need to accommodate people’s aspirations and convey them to the government. Aside from that, they’re the ones who will be drafting Special Regional Regulations.
Because Doren Wakerkwa officially serves as Acting Secretary of MRP, the community expects a lot from him. They hope he will carry out his duties properly while in office. So, the public service activities and the service authority to the community will soon reach their maximum capacity.
