Education in Gender Equality in Papua

All women in Indonesia, including Papua, must get a good and dignified education because education is the key to nation-building success. Education gender equality in Papua must continuously be developed and implemented.

What is the Education in Gender Equality in Papua?

One of the problems in Papua is related to strengthening women in education. The issue of gender equality is one of the main issues in human resource development. The central government has given Papua special autonomy funds for education and others.

Education is the key to increasing the capacity and role of women in development. The government improve education for women in Papua because their role is very important. Currently, access to education in gender equality in Papua is open but still needs to be fixed.

Then, what has been said as gender equality in the world of education in Papua? Here’s a big picture of how gender equality has been achieved:

1. Have the Same Position as Human

The gender gap in education in Papua must be erased in schools’ learning process. For example, student seating arrangement, line arrangement, ceremony implementation, class president, student organization leader, and others.

Male and female students must be able to cover all aspects of household activities, from washing clothes, cooking, and cleaning the house. As a result, men and women learn to have equal roles and responsibilities in performing household tasks.

This eliminates the gender gap in the learning process in schools where men usually dominate gender construction.

In Papua, women should be involved in various development sectors. Men still dominate. Still, a few women fill strategic positions in the government and private sectors.

2. Have Equal Rights Equal in Education

Schools should be not only a buffer of values but also a caller for fertile minds. Schools must collaborate with industrial developments and the needs of the times. One of the school’s tasks is not to allow gender inequality.

Education gender equality in Papua must always be fought for. Every woman has the equal rights in education as men. Women can improve their quality in education and career planning on a par with men.

Gender equality in education can be achieved through three things. They are the right to education, education in an environment that supports gender equality, and educational outcomes that support the achievement of justice.

The right to education for Papua’s women may now have begun to be achieved. However, much remains to be done regarding rights in the education process. There are still many textbooks that do not provide examples and models that support gender equality.

Efforts to Improve Gender Equality in Papua

The goverment has made various efforts to improve gender equality, women’s empowerment, and child protection, especially in Papua and West Papua, since 2015. The Papuan government identifies critically and in detail the needs and problems of women and men.

The data shows that Papua and West Papua are the provinces with the achievement of the Human Development Index, Gender Development, and Gender Empowerment which are still below the national average.

The existence of Papuan Women Scholars is expected to make a positive, constructive, and significant contribution to improving Education gender equality in Papua.

The presence of Papuan Women Intellectuals is expected to result in the right strategic decisions to deal with women’s and children’s issues.

In addition, it can also prevent gender inequality as well as various forms of gender-based discrimination and violence against Papuan women.

Education gender equality in Papua must be monitored and carried out according to applicable regulations. All Indonesian people have the same things and obligations regardless of their gender. All people should have the same education.
