Robert Awi, Head of The Industry, Trade, and Cooperative Service of Jayapura City, agrees. He acknowledged that all parties asked the institution to motivate the community to participate in entrepreneurship. This method is considered to work to control inflation in Papua Province.
The Exhibition of MSMEs Effective in Overcoming Inflation in Jayapura City
Basically, many ways can be done to motivate the home industries and the MSMEs’ business owners, for example, such as holding an MSMEs exhibition in Jayapura City. This method has been applied to implementing the Imbi Culinary Week event, and its result is successful.
After the Imbi Culinary Week event had passed, the Baku Timba festival was held at PTC Entrop Jayapura. This festival is a follow-up event after the previous one got great feedback from the community. The organizer of these two events and festivals is Okto Entertainment.
“We thank Okto Entertainment because they have already held MSMEs exhibitions in Jayapura City”, said Awi to the media.
According to him, these events had a very positive effect on the economy movement in Jayapura City, especially in dealing with inflation. Awi admits that entrepreneurs are very influential in reducing the inflation rate. So, events and festivals like this are really necessary to increase sales.
Last year, the inflation rate in Jayapura City was below the national inflation rate of 5,2 percent. At the same time, the national one is at 5,7 percent, 0,5 percent higher than the regional inflation rate. They hope that they will maintain this in 2023, and the regional percentage should be lower.
If things continue like this, it can be concluded that the inflation rate in Jayapura City is still under control. This is the main goal of The Industry, Trade, and Cooperative Service of Jayapura City.
The Government and Community Are Expected to Work Together
Because it has proven successful in reducing the inflation rates, the government hopes that many people will actively hold similar events. The reason is that the government cannot act alone to achieve this success. The communities need to synergize with them.
Awi said that the government is ready to support events like this for the welfare of the MSMEs business owners. In addition, his party will also try to provide a cheap market for the residents. This year, the target is to keep the inflation rate below 3,5 percent, so they must work hard.
“We supervise the goods and report them to the Ministry of Home Affairs through the inspectorate every day. Then, we also supervise and report it to the Jayapura City BPS. Then, their party will carry out the data calculations about the inflation daily and monthly, so it will stay under control”, explains Awi.
In addition, his party also routinely conducts inspections at the markets so the prices of basic goods keep stable. If the price of something goes up, they will find out what is causing it and find a way out immediately. They will also announce the price developments to the media so the public knows.
For this reason, the government hopes that the public will also participate in reducing the inflation rate. This is why Jayapura City encourages entrepreneurship. His party will continue to motivate the community to develop the home industries and the MSMEs businesses to achieve it.
