Jokowi Monitored The Development of Samabusa Port in Nabire

Jokowi explained that the existence of Samabusa Port is very important because it does not only serve the goods coming in and out for Nabire District only, but also the six districts around in Nabire (Intan Jaya, Paniai, Deiyai, Dogiyai, Waropen, and Membramo Raya).

President Joko Widodo confirmed that the development of Samabusa Port, Nabire Regency, Papua Province, will be jointly undertaken by the government and private parties. “The port of cargoes in 2018 will begin to enlarge, as well as for the passenger terminal will also be in cooperation with the private sector. In the future this will truly be a port for the six districts around Nabire,” said President Jokowi when monitoring Samabusa Port on Thursday (21/12).

The president who saw the condition of the Port of Samabusa immediately considered that there are still many things that must be fixed in that location. Therefore, cooperation between the government and private parties is considered so that the process can be done more quickly.

Not only for logistic distribution, Samabusa Port is also considered important to attract investors to come to Nabire. The President also mentioned that there are some commodities produced in Nabire and around districts, which are very potential to be sold to the global market.

“The regent has already submitted some products from here that are usually sent to Surabaya, such as fish, wood, and oranges. I think there is a lot of opportunities for the private sector to see feasible for them to come here,” he said.

Meanwhile, Papua Governor Lukas Enembe stated that the construction of the Samabusa port, Nabire Regency, continues to be encouraged in order to support the Sea Toll program planned by the central government. The existence of the port is considered important to reduce the price of goods in Papua. “This is important because we expect the ports in Papua to support the Sea Toll program,” said Enembe in Jayapura, Friday (22/12/2017).

In addition to building the infrastructure, the area around the port should be prepared to provide materials that can be transported outside Papua. “It should be noted, districts that enter the sea toll line has to improve especially in increasing production, such as agriculture, livestock and others,” said Enembe explains.
