Kabui Bay Raja Ampat and the Mystery of the Ghost Caves

Papua does not only save a million natural and cultural beauties. Papua also has a mystery that is no less interesting. This time, we’ll travel to Kabui Bay in Raja Ampat to investigate it and learn the truth behind the legend surrounding the ghost cave there. Let’s start.

About Kabui Bay

Kabui Bay located between Gam Island and the South West of Waigeo

Kabui Bay is a bay that is part of Waigeo Island, the largest of the 4 main islands in the Raja Ampat Islands. Reaching Kabui Bay by sea will be simpler, even if it is still on the same island as Waisai’s capital.

As this enormous bay is situated just across from Waisai, traveling there by land will be challenging because the forest’s interior is still inaccessible. On the other hand, if you take a more direct route at sea, it will be simpler for you to go to Kabui Bay from Waisai port in only approximately 30 minutes.

Point of Interest in Kabui Bay

There are many beautiful places in Kabui Bay

The unique feature of this bay is all the fascinating things you can discover when exploring this region. Exploring Kabui Bay is kept fascinating for visitors because of these intriguing things.

Also, Kabui Bay is so well-liked by both local and international tourists due to the comparatively short distance from Waisai. Everyone who like adventure will find Kabui Bay in the Raja Ampat Islands to be a remarkable location.

1. Giant Maze

The presence of coral islands grouped into a maze-like formation is one of the features of this expansive enchanting bay. Karst is the name given to this coral rock in science.

Also, the refraction of the green trees’ reflections between the Karst causes the waters of Kabui to become shaded. After crossing it, you will have the impression of entering a mysterious, alternate dimension.

Little ripples are created around the ship as if to welcome you on the surface of the calm water that the ship’s end has split. The walls of the enormous coral island on this island are reported to have formed hundreds of millions of years ago.

These interconnected labyrinths will take you even further into one of Kabui Bay’s most well-known landmarks.

The tranquil water’s surface is covered in many coral rock formations. This is the well-known Pinsil Stone, a representative image of Kabui Bay and a popular location for photography, whether for personal or professional use.

2. Ghost Cave

Another interesting feature is a cave in the bay region that can only be seen at low tide. This cave will vanish depending on the tide conditions.

This cave has beautifully arranged and well-preserved rock stalactites and stalagmites. But, the mystery tales of this cave are equally intriguing as its natural beauty.

Yet, locals claim that this cave is a sea ghost nest. The alleged sea ghost appears to be a large octopus, which is currently quite uncommon there.

Typically, this octopus will assault fishing vessels, destroying them and sometimes even killing the crew. But sadly, if someone plans to photograph the size of the enormous octopus, they never appear. Because its identity is still a mystery, the huge octopus has been compared to a ghost up to this point.

That is reason why this place is called the Ghost Cave because of the existence of a mysterious figure that until now has not been revealed.

3. Underwater Beauty

Not only beautiful on the water’s surface, but Kabui Bay is also undeniably stunning underwater, even without diving. This is because Kabui Bay’s water is so clean that you can see the coral rocks and vibrant fish from the boat.

Yet, if you dive to a depth of several meters, you will be even more astounded by the atmosphere of the underwater ecosystem of Kabui Bay. If you don’t want to dive, snorkeling is enough to enjoy the beauty of this bay fully.
