  • Forest Product

  •  Cocoa

One of the areas in Central Papua, Mimika, is one of the largest chocolate-producing regions in Indonesia. Through a program of planting 10,000 cocoa seedlings organized by the local government and PT Freeport Indonesia in 2015, cocoa is currently a prospective economic commodity in the Mimika region.

  • Areca Nut 

Areca nut is a plant close to the people of Central Papua.  Apart from meeting the socio-cultural demands of the local people, areca nut is one of the most important export commodities in Central Papua.

  • Coconut

Coconut is another natural resource in Central Papua. The Nabire region is the coconut-producing area in the province of Central Papua.

The community cooks with the abundant coconuts that grow in the Nabire region. They convert coconut meat into coconut oil and utilize it in cooking. Aside from that, the locals convert coconuts into copra, which they subsequently export outside of Papua.

  • Coffee

Central Papua is also well-known for its distinctive coffee, Amungme coffee, produced in Timika Regency. The Amungme people recognized this coffee seed for the first time in 1998.
