The Minister of Education in Indonesia, Nadiem Anwar Makarim, told his optimism about the education in the West Papua province. That is based on a strong reason for sure.
Nadiem told about that after he visited 13 locations in the Sorong city and regency. His visit was held in 10 – 13 of February 2021.
When he met the teachers and headmasters in the West Papua, it can be noted that they have the merdeka belajar paradigm. It means feels free to learn.
They have a desire to be better and it is the most important thing in the education transformation. The minister also informed about his duty.
He said that his duty is to hatch the potential so that the principals and teachers in that province can make any innovations to teach the students.
Besides that, they are also facilitated to be able to teach. The aim is to make the children in the Papua land have a better quality of education.
The Appreciations Given by some Parties
The visit done by the the ministry officials and his commitments to make the West Papua education is better got the appreciations. One of them is the president’s staff.
Billly Mambrasar as the president’s staff said that Nadiem has been manifesting the instructions made by Joko Widodo as the president of Indonesia. One of the instructions is to continue the Construction program in that province.
It is especially the human resource development. He said that the work done amidst the COVID-19 pandemic is quick, creative, and also straight to the point. The quick work could be seen from the real time data.
The data was gotten directly to know the problem in the society. Everything was seen when the minister had a dialogue with the teachers. From that meeting, it could be seen the lack and mistakes of learning in the West Papua. This direct data is good to find the right solution to solve it.
The Best Actions by the Minister in West Papua
Besides the quick works and actions, the minister of education also works on the target. Furthermore, he is also creative where everything can be seen from the evidence below.

Furthermore, Billy assessed that Nadiem and his staffs can work on target where he conducts an assessment of the price and omnipresence index. That is why; the this province will get a higher School Operational Assistance (BOS) funds than other provinces.
It is especially for this year. The more fund given is better. However, the distribution action must be supervised to reduce or maybe delete the corruption action.

Then, the Minister of Education is also creative, where when going down to Soop Island Sorong City, there are school children who have difficulty in accessing the transportation.
The Minister donated a ship and came up with a creative idea by creating a transportation system. That is why; the teachers and children can walk to school with the help of the government.
- Amazing breakthrough done by the Minister
The appreciation also came from the member of X commission of the house of representative in Indonesia. It is especially from the West Papua area.
The member’s name is Robert Joppy Kardinal who was proud with the breakthroughs made by the Minister of Education and Culture. The special thing is for the east part of Indonesia.
He said that by visiting the different 13 locations in Sorong, the Minister has been able to see 80% of the problems occurred in the other areas in this country.
The house of representative will support those breakthroughs by giving more fund and must be on target. That is a great solution needed by the country like this.
The Digitalized Education Is One of the Main Programs
The first day of his visit in West Papua wa started with a discussion on the use of ICT assistance from @kemdikbud.ri. As the digitization of schools becomes one of the priorities in 2021.
During his visit, the Minister of Education ensured the utilization of information and communication technology (ICT) tools from the Ministry of Education.
The good is to and utilized by teachers and students of Sorong Regency 14 Junior High School. He realizes that this ICT assistance is still not in accordance with the number of existing students.
It isconsidering that other schools also need. Nadiem ensures that in the future he will continue to accelerate this ICT assistance even more. People should be aware that it is not a cheap tool and many other schools are also in need.
However, in the years ahead they will continue to accelerate this assistance. He informed that The lagging, outermost, and leading areas (3T) will be one of the priority areas for the digitization of schools. They really need it.
So far, the ICT assistance was given to 29 schools in West Papua Province where the SMPN 14 Sorong Regency is one of 250 schools in Indonesia that receive that assistance.
