IDR 122 Billion for Student Study Abroad Fees

Budget for Papua scholarship

As a form of the local government’s attention so that education in Papua continues to progress without cost hindrances, an allocation of funds of IDR 122 billion has been made available.

The fund is prepared explicitly as a scholarship for students studying abroad.

The disbursement of education Papua funds for the needs of this study was carried out before Eid al-Fitr in Indonesia after the payment had been delayed.

The acceleration of the disbursement process is a concern because the government realizes these funds are vital for the future of indigenous Papuan children.

The government feels obligated to provide this scholarship because, ultimately, every student who has graduated will later become the leader in cities or districts in Papua. One of these young candidates can become a mayor, regent, or governor in Papua.

The Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Jhon Wempi, warmly welcomed the Papua policy for his students. He was happy because the local government completed the payment of the scholarship.

This enthusiastic response was not without cause because previously, there had been discussion regarding the tuition fees of around 3,900 students in arrears.

From 2023 onwards, the responsibility for the cost of this student scholarship study will be delegated to the governments of the new autonomous regions, such as Highlands Papua, South Papua, and Central Papua.

For the current disbursement, the Inspector General of the Ministry of Home Affairs has validated the student status of everyone abroad. This is to select the eligibility of each recipient.
