Forkopimda Commits to Accelerating Southwest Papua’s Development

Forkopimda, short for Forum Koordinasi Pimpinan Daerah, is a forum for coordinating and collaborating between government leaders and agencies at the regional level. Recently, the Forkopimda of PBD has committed to accelerating Southwest Papua’s development.

This meeting is held in Etamin room, Vega Hotel, Sorong, on Monday, 27th of March 2023. The government and leaders who attend this meeting are Dr. Muhammad Musa’ad (Governor of Southwest Papua), Irjen Pol Daniel Tahi Monang Silitonga, and Mayjen TNI Gabriel Lema.

Besides, all mayors and regents throughout PBD province also attend this important meeting. It is because accelerating the development in Southwest Papua requires the collaboration of related parties.

The Result of the Forkopimda Meeting

Efforts for Southwest Papua's development

After meeting for four hours, the members of Forkopimda determine several agreements. However, they still need to refine these results. Some of the agreement’s results are:

1. To Accelerate the Development of the Southwest Papua Province

Dr. Muhammad Musa’ad, The Governor of Southwest Papua, confirmed that this meeting aims to plan the acceleration of regional development in this 38th province in Indonesia. To speed up the improvement in all areas, Forkopimda agrees to conduct monthly meetings.

2. Conduct an Internal Meeting in Their Areas

Additionally, the governor also asks all mayors and regents to conduct an internal meeting in their areas. Then, they can present the result of their agenda during the Forkopimda meeting. This decision is the form of the leaders’ commitment to quickly achieving progress in various fields.

3. Conduct Other Programs

The aim is for all programs can be carried out based on applicable regulations. Muhammad Musa’ad explained that the provincial government also conducts other programs. Examples of the programs are training and TMMD or TNI Manunggal Masuk Desa.

In fact, the TMMD program has been started since the 1980s. The previous name of this program was ABRI Masuk Desa. After conducting this program for over 40 years, the government evaluates and changes its name to TMMD.

The communities in the rural areas, including Papua, really get the benefits of this program. TNI, along with locals, work together to build the infrastructure.

4. Conduct Non-Physical Activities

Additionally, TNI and regional government also conduct non-physical activities. For example, they give family planning, legal, and animal husbandry counseling.

This program integrates the TNI and the local government to accelerate development breakthroughs in rural areas. Besides, it becomes an effective step to improve the infrastructure in Southwest Papua. As a result, the people’s welfare can increase.

The commitment of Forkopimda to accelerating regional area development is the latest Southwest Papua news. As one of the youngest provinces in Indonesia, Southwest Papua requires extra attention from the government.

Since it is located in the easternmost part of Indonesia, this province is included in the outermost and underdeveloped area. So, this province faces many challenges, including poverty, underdevelopment, and social conflicts.

The Forkopimda of Southwest Papua is composed of several high-ranking officials. This forum consists of the governor, the police chief, the military commander, mayors, and regents throughout Southwest Papua.

The collaboration of these parties plays a crucial role in planning and implementing development programs in this region. For your information, the development program not only focuses on infrastructure improvement.

But the regional government and other officials also prioritize other areas, such as human resources development. This includes initiatives to improve the region’s education, healthcare, and welfare.

The Forkopimda of Southwest Papua plans to collaborate closely with various stakeholders to achieve these goals. They also commit to conducting regular meetings to discuss the progress of the development programs.
