The case of vessel grounding also happened with the incident with the Indinurmatalia07 cargo vessel on 2021 Saturday, August 7. At approximately 7 PM, the vessel grounding caused coral reef damage.
The Indi Nurmatalia07 cargo ship’s officer was said not to be able to control the ship after leaving the Manokwari port due to the bad weather. However, many had doubts about these reasons since the distance between the port and the vessel was about 500 meters away. The removal of the vessel was done on 10th August 2021.
The area, Doreri Bay Manokwari, is an available place for a diverse variety of coral species. Those are Acropora, Coleoseris, Goniopora, and Millepora
Pocillopora. Moreover, the area is also known for its diverse variety of fish, invertebrates, and many more.
Due to these incidents, many of the coral structures were crushed and fractured at the edge of the vessel grounding. However, the central part was damaged by the incident.
The central part of the coral has lost its structure and its coral variety.
Regarding this incident many were disappointed by it. Hence, the coral government will sue the cargo ship and its insurance company. Therefore, they can pay for their loss and damage caused by the incident. This coral reef could also damage the ecosystem that has long been built in that area.
