The Land Infrastructure in West Papua and It’s Budget

PUPR or the ministry of public work and housing is trusted to continue the infrastructure development in Papua and West Papua provinces. They are the government implementation.

The aims are to reduce poverty and omnipresence indices. That is as well as leveling up the infrastructure development throughout Indonesia.

West Papua Province is allocated Rp 3.75 trillion which is used for natural resource Rp 543.27 billion, roads and bridges Rp 2.66 trillion, settlements Rp 312.23 billion, and housing amounting to Rp 228.83 billion.

Meawhile, until now the physical progress of the physical construction is about 44.9 percent. Elsewhere, the financial that it has is around 42.9%.

Improving the West Papua People Welfare

The government of Indonesia is so serious to improve the welfare of the local people in that country. To reach that goal, there are some efforts which can be done such as:

  1. Open the isolation

Basuki revealed, the improvement of the welfare of the Papuan people was one of them done by opening the isolation of the region. That is able to bring so many positive things.

  • Build the trans – Papua road

The other ways are improving the access and connectivity. That is from land and multimodal such as the construction of the Trans-Papua Road with a total length of 3,462 kilometers.

Of the total length, currently the road that has penetrated along 3,446 kilometers is with a paved condition along 1,733 kilometers. The part which has not been paved is 1,712 kilometers. Meanwhile ,the rest which has not penetrated reached 16 kilometers. It is for sure that the progress will be always done in day by day.

  • Border roads constructions

In addition, the Ministry of PUPR is also finishing the border road construction in West Papua. The total length of that project is 1,098 kilometers. Currently, it has been translucent and has been paved along 931 kilometers and 756 kilometers, respectively. That is not the only plan.

This year, a 34-kilometer border road in that region is also being worked. Those are including the new construction, road opening and upgrading the structures or pavements.

  • Rehabilitating some important buildings

For the support of human resource capacity development (HR), a total of 179 schools and religion have been rehabilitated. 1 State University (PTN), and 8 sports facilities there are also rehabilitated.

In addition, that institution also carries out the human resources training of construction services involving. Those are including the West Papuan and the people around.

  • Market Rehabilitation or Reconstruction

To boost the local economic growth, rehabilitation or reconstruction of Wouma Market in Wamena in FY 2020 was also done. Traditional market really has an important role.

That rehabilitation was done with a budget of IDR 2.1 billion. Meanwhile, the 403 shophouses in Wamena post-social conflict reconstruction was done with a budget of IDR 138.6 billion.

In addition, the Ministry also creates the human resources training of construction service. This plan is involving the indigenous people in that region.

The Program Will Be Continued in 2022

Vice President Maruf Amin several months ago chaired an integrated coordination meeting on accelerating welfare development in Papua and West Papua provinces, at the Governor’s Office Complex.

In this coordination meeting, Maruf ensured that the government agreed to continue the superior programs to accelerate welfare development in Fiscal Year 2022.
