What Makes the Place Unique?

This place has a great view

Um Island is an island inhabited by bats. In the local language, “um” means “bat”. So “Um Island” literally means “The Bat Island”. The island got its name from the fact that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of bats, inhabiting the area.

Bats are native to Indonesia. In fact, there are different species of bats living throughout the archipelago. Bats can thrive and multiply with a suitable climate and abundant food sources. The lack of predators may also add to the list of the reasons why this place is filled with lots of bats.

Lots of bats live on small islands because these kinds of places keep them away from outside interferences that may harm them. And the fact that people living near Um decided not to live on the island only further aids the growth of the bat population.
