UIP Fun Facts, First Campus in Papua with International Standards

Soon, Papua and West Papua will have the first international-standardized college called the Papua International University (UIP). The university is inaugurated based upon the Decree of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia Number 24/E/O/2022 concerning the Permit for the Establishment of the Papua International University. 

The decree was issued on January 17, 2022. To know more about this international standard institution, below are some of their fascinating facts.

Two Outstanding Faculties and an Global Research Center

The first fun fact is UIP owns two superior faculties. They are the Faculty of Science and Technology and the Faculty of Teaching Preparation and Education. To assist the student studying facilities, this institution offers an international standard Research Center.

Papuan and Foreign Lecturers

The Papua International University promises to hire the best lecturers from West Papua and also abroad. The university will only have the best teachers with excellent teaching qualifications that match the need of UIP. This program also became an effort to accelerate the development in Cenderawasih Island.

Technology in Learning Activities

Bambang Soesatyo, the head of the People’s Consultative Council of Republic Indonesia or Majelis Permusyawaratan Rakyat RI, stated that having this international standard college can also lower the cost of studying overseas. They can attend classes in UIP instead of overseas campuses.

Bambang explained that the applied and featured learning methods in UIP are remodeled to international leading learning qualifications. The qualifications can be seen through the application platform implementation of international quality TKBEL education. 

As quoted by the official site of TKBEL, the application is a technology for listening classes that has been simplified to conference and museum trips through headphones. For supporting learning facilities in UIP itself, TKBEL can also help arrange courses schedules. Students can also save and control tutoring material in audio and PDF text, as well as presence register and papers.

Great names behind this application are Haim Berkovits as chief executive officer, David Chouraqui as a chief financial officer, and Samuel Tabuni as chief technology officer. In addition, Samuel Tabuni is also a director and CEO for PLI which stands for Papua Language Institute as well as Maga Education Papua Foundation which houses the Papua International University.

Home Land and Abroad’s Campuses

Furthermore, Bambang revealed that UIP will also ensure compliance to qualifications of international high-rank learning through a partnership program with universities in other countries. UIP’s students will have to finish two-year education at the Papua International University and later followed by another two years at overseas universities.

Students of UIP are hoped to take on young generations’ roles that are competent and academically skilled. UIP also hopes its alumni will have a forceful mentality and Indonesian heart. Bambang later explained that in the first two years, students should learn the Indonesian values of wisdom and national vision. 

With that, whenever UIP students study abroad in partner campuses, they will hold firm to their Indonesian cultural distinctiveness. Deputy II of the Presidential Staff Office or Kantor Staf Presiden (KSP), Abetnego Tarigantrong foundation. He added that he is optimistic UIP will bring forth qualified human resources that will give a big contribution to Papua and West Papua’s development.

According to Abetnego, UIP has a great potential in developing cooperation in terms of international standard education since Papua and West Papua location is near and bordering several countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and Pacific countries.
