1. Papua Province Disburses Funds

The physical progress of infrastructure development in Papua in 2021 is 37.95 percent, and the financial gain is 41.06 percent. Below are the details of the fund allocation for Papua province’s infrastructure:Nature Resources, 732.87 billion rupiah, 

Roads and bridges, 4.49 trillion rupiah,

Settlements, 683.03 billion rupiah,

Housing, 283 billion rupiah.

2. West Papua Province Disburses Funds

According to current statistics, the physical progress of infrastructure development in West Papua for the 2021 fiscal year is 44.09 percent, while the financial gain is 42.9 percent. 

  • The total fund is 3.75 trillion rupiahs, which was allotted for:
  • Natural resources sector, 543.27 billion rupiah, 
  • Roads and bridges, 2.66 trillion rupiah, 
  • Settlements, 312.23 billion rupiah
  • Housing, 288.3 billion rupiah. 

To realize the economic growth in West Papua, the government also completed the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Wouma Market in Wamena with a budget of 2.1 billion rupiahs.

West Papua Infrastructure Fund in 2022

The 100.59 trillion rupiah budget for West Papua and Papua province’s infrastructure projects has been allocated by the Indonesian Ministry of Finance. Despite this, the government has decided to save 5% because of COVID-19. If the outbreak can be halted by the first half of 2022, they will use the savings to expedite infrastructure projects.

If the infrastructure, roads, and ports in West Papua were improved, the economy would grow faster. It is because the distribution of goods and people will increase. As a result, the President emphasized the construction of several roadways to simplify logistical distribution.

1. Construction of Roads

Indonesia is presently constructing a road known as the Trans Papua road. With a length of 3462 kilometers, this road will play a significant role in Papua’s economy.

As well as building Trans Papua, the Indonesian government is also building 1,098 km of border roads in Papua. Papua New Guinea and the city of Jayapura are separated by a road.

2. The Youtefa Bridge

The Youtefa bridge is a landmark of Jayapura. Located in Youtefa Bay, it will reduce the travel time between the Skouw border post and Jayapura city by 70 minutes. Prior to the bridge construction, it took a whole day to go from one region to another.

3. Airports

There are five airports in Papua Province: Ewer Airport, Kepi Airport, Ilaga Airport, Oksibil Airport, Nabire Baru Airport, and Mopah Airport.

Also, the construction of four airports in West Papua Province is presently taking place; Rendani Manokwari Airport, Raja Ampat Waisai Airport, Wasior Baru Airport, and Siboru Fak-fak New Airport.

4. Hospitals

Further, there is TNI LB Moerdani General Hospital in Margamulya District, Merauke Regency, to serve the healthcare needs of Papuans.

5. Port

So far, the government has constructed Depapre Port, Nabire Port, Pomako Port, Moor Port, and Serui Port in Papua Province. In West Papua, there is also Kaimana Port.

6. The Cross-Border Post

A cross-border post, or PLBN, exists between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. It is named PLBN Skouw in Jayapura.

7. The Lukas Enembe Stadion

Football is West Papua’s favorite sport. Therefore, government also decided to hold PON, the largest sports event in Indonesia, In this stadium.

8. Rehabilitating the Markets

The Indonesian government rehabilitated The Wouma market in Wamena and the Thumburuni market in Fakfak, West Papua for economic betterment.

9. Schools and Education

To promote human resource capacity development, the government has constructed 179 schools, universities, and eight sports facilities in Papua. 

Also, there is the Papua Youth Creative Hub, which will become Papua’s “Silicon Valley” in science, arts, culture, and sports.
