4 West Papua Taman Wisata Alam (Nature Parks) To Delve In Its Beauty

Being a home of 10 to 15% of forest diversity, the natural resource of Papua was always an ideal place for conservation. It is especially true since Papua has the third biggest rainforest area in the world. Most of the area splayed across Papua and West Papua, which later turned into a ecotourism conservation areas under the name of Taman Wisata Alam. Here are the details.

Four Taman Wisata Alam To Visit

1. Taman Wisata Alam Klamono

Located at district Klamono, Sorong, the Wisata Alam Klamono is a nature park with low land tropical forest areas. Since it is located in Sorong, the place has a huge potential to gather visitors and introduce the beauty of natural resources in the area. It was also worth mentioning that the main attraction was the ranges of flora and fauna living in the area. 

Those who love venturing into natural forest conservation should visit Klamono. It goes with reason since the forest cover is mostly made out of low-land forest trees genus. In this park, the tree species are divided into woody and non-woody plants categories. It was also worth noticing the great arrays of wood types in the areas.

Some of them are Moraceae, Sapindaceae, and Fabaceae. The wood variance in the west Papua forest also has some non-wooden planes, such as flowers, orchids, bamboo, herbals, and many more. With its diversity, the park is also a home of some magnifying floras. Some of them are deemed as indigenous animals.

Flora variance in Taman Wisata Alam Klamono also make a huge role in its popularity and conservation effort. Under national laws, some indigenous animals are protected and live in this natural habitat. Those indigenous animals include birds, such as the king Cockatoo, Yellow tuft cockatoo, Bird of paradise, Blackhead red parrot, and many more. 

2. Taman Wisata Alam Sorong

Sorong nature park is located 14 Km from the Sorong downtown. The position makes it an ideal place to visit. Sorong TWA itself has a generous area spanning over 945,9 ha that is under BKSDA (Balai Besar Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam) or natural resources conservation center’s management.

Due to its location, people also call it the lung of Sorong. The same with Klamono, the TWA is mostly made out of the dense rainforest. Thus, the area itself is the home of varying fauna and floras. As one of the west Papua conservation area, the flora potentials in this TWA is off the chart. A record says that the forest consists of 53 types of woody vegetation.

Not only that, it is a natural habitat that turns into bird conservation areas. Some exotic animals are under protection also found living in the park areas. In here, you can see Kuskus, deer, varying butterfly species, Bird of paradise (Cendrawasih), Julang Papua, Cockatoo, and many other bird families.

3. Taman Wisata Alam Bariat

The last one located on Sorong is Bariat. The exact location is on the south Sorong, in the city of Teminabuan. Boasting the magnificent hilly topography, the nature park is packed with ranges of forest, floras, and fauna. The unique typography is also composed of many hills, with the higher one being about 350 meters above sea level.

Since it has a very exceptional landscape the forest cover in this area is the natural home of many faunas. Kus Kus, Parrot, Maleo, Cockatoo, and many other birds species are lurking in the area. Not only that but there are also many other potential faunas in this west Papua natural park with exotic landscape design.

To make it even better, the hilly landscape did not limit the forest biodiversity. It is said that the flora collection in Barista can range from the common wooden trees to the more specific ones, such as mangrove to moss. And at last, the park also has some huge rivers that lead to Sungai Kaibus. 

4. Taman Wisata Alam Gunung Meja

Going far to Manokwari, about 2.5 km from the downtown there is a famous tourist destination known as Taman Wisata Alam Gunung Meja (mountain table). It was named so due to a huge mountain with a flat surface resembling a table. However, there are many reasons the places gain a lot of tourist attention.

One of them is the natural wet tropical rainforest, which has a higher rain rate. With that condition, the ecotourism location in west Papua is also used as a research site as well as a conservation center. It has ranges of floras and fauna. The recorded number is about 26 types of orchids, 15 types of mammals, 35 species of birds, and possibly the rare indigenous Taun Taun birds are found in Gunung Meja.

What people can do when visiting Papua? Most people might only consider the marine tourist attraction in Raja Ampat. But, the land conservation of TWAs is also worth visiting. Each location has a different focus, beauty, and conservation method, which makes them a great place to introduce visitors to the beauty of Papua.
