DKP Papua Run Tests Hamadi Fish Landing Port Operation

The economic growth of Papua has been rising lately. The fishery industry is one of the most recent projects the government wants to flourish in Papua. Fishery in Papua is a potential field for export.

Especially since the sea surrounding the land has a lot of natural treasure. The number of fish species in the Papuan Sea is rich and explorable. To optimize this potential, DKP Papua run tests for Hamadi Fish landing port operation.

The Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Service (DKP) of Papua Province is testing the Hamadi Fish Landing Base (PPI) operation in South Jayapura District, Jayapura City, so the government hopes it will be able to operate optimally.

The Goal of Hamadi Fish Landing Port

Purpose of Hamidi Fish Landing Port Operation

The government aims to create a fish landing port to maximize the fishery potential in Jayapura. The sea is rich with fish and is beyond the numbers people need for consumption only. Hence, the fish can also be a potential commodity for export.

However, access in Papua generally is limited. It takes a few hours more to reach the city. Hence, it will be quite a hassle for fishermen to transfer their fish and sell them to the higher market with a wider audience.

Therefore, the government needs to take quick and decisive action to not waste the opportunity of higher export commodities.

Thus, they finally reach the point of building a Hamadi fish landing port. This landing port is for all the boats and the ships carrying the fish from the sea.

Therefore, it will be easier for fishermen in Papua to transfer the fish and get it processed for export.

Having the Hamadi fish landing port, there were several obstacles the government had to face. The first is when it comes to the retribution rule, which makes it hard to accommodate since there was no regulation to regulate this process before.

Second, there are a lot of supporting facilities that the government needs to provide to make the whole thing works. For example, the construction of clean water tanks around the wharf, then the existence of the Syahbandar Building to monitor the departure and arrival of fishing boats.

Thirdly, the port must meet the requirements to send fish for export business. The facilities they are building now must meet the international standard.

Thankfully, the project tackled the obstacles progressively. Hence, it is official now that Jayapura has its fish landing port operation.

Plan for Fish Landing Port Operation

Now that the government has taken serious legalization and provided the supporting facilities provided, the next plan to execute is to run the fish landing port.

They will start organizing the fishermen and the fishery that will meet the requirements standard for international export. Moreover, they will also have the equipment needed to sort out the fish the fishermen bring to the landing port.

Supporting facilities are also under construction to aid the function even better.

Head of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Service for Papua Province Iman Djuniawal in Jayapura said, “We are trying to complete several facilities and infrastructure so that TPI can later operate optimally so that data collection will be better”

He explained that with the operation of the facility, it is hoped that the fishery potential in Jayapura City can be managed properly so that, in the future, the export option will work well.

Moreover, Jayapura City has very good quality fish and great potential. “That way, in the future, TPI Hamadi will become a place for marketing fish as well as a culinary center if port activities are going well,” he said again.
