The Manokwari Government Speeds Up Airport Development

Based on the master plan submitted by the Regent of Manokwari, the airport runway extension is around 2500 meters. At least so far, that’s how long it’s been working.

But the local government gave a new proposal of 3000 meters. This proposal is present so Airbus aircraft can be accommodated at the airport.

In addition to submitting this proposal, the Regency Government is also pushing for the accelerated process of developing the airport.

You do this by accelerating, which is divided into three segments:

  • Runway extension
  • Construction of a particular passenger terminal
  • As well as the development of the land side of the airport

For connectivity, the local government has started preparing for the relocation of 349 heads of families who live around the airport. This relocation process is a form of government cooperation with the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR).

Relocation is essential because the airport’s area is 134.5 hectares, but people inhabit some of it without permits.

The relocation process will occur in stages and must go through active outreach to the affected parties. Thus, neither side suffered any losses.
