The government of Biak Numfor Regency is distributing funds to some villages in the area. This program is called the District Government of Biak: funds prevent poverty in the village because the poverty level in Biak is still quite high.
Papua Province stated that village funds distributed to each village played an essential role. It helps people meet residents’ needs to prevent poverty in the village.
Biak Numfor Regent Herry Ario Naap stated that various village fund programs will help Biak economic empowerment and overcome poverty. However, it is also not a permanent solution.
The practice should meet the requirements where there is no fee or any charge for people who receive the fund. Hence, the fund is all for people in need. If there is any speculating practice, people can report it to the government for further inspection.
Full Funds for The Poverty
The government promised that all the funds for those in need are fully-funded. There has been a rumor circulating that some parties cut the fund under the pretense of administrative fees. If you found this out, know that this is a hoax, and the fund should be full without any additional fee.
Moreover, the government targets villages with a high population of people living below means to help them survive. They also plan to make it a continual program. Then, the Biak Numfor Treasury Service will review its effectiveness in helping needy people.
Hopefully, it will have an economic effect and help people stand independently. The people will receive funds, and the government plans to give them economic empowerment.
This empowerment will teach them to create and utilize their creativity and resources in the village. Thus, when the village becomes more independent, it will also attract more tourists.
Mechanism of Funds for Village
Biak Numfor got the funds from the Ministry of Finance through the Biak Numfor State Treasury Service Office. Then, they transfer the fund to the account of the local village government.
According to the Regent, to use the village funds, the government will let the village decide which priority and economic aspect to the target. Moreover, the village is also responsible for listing the number of fund recipients.
Preparation for Sailing Teluk Cenderawasih
This fund distribution also supports people below the means and prepares for the Sail Teluk Cendrawasih festival. This was what the Regent stated during his interview.
He said that Biak Numfor Regency in November 2023 it will hold a national tourism activity, Sail Teluk Cenderawasih (STC), in November.
“To prepare for that, each village government can create a community economic empowerment program. It can be in accordance with the natural potential for its citizens through local village funds,” he said.
He hopes that tourists from various countries will attend the STC 2023 activity. Thus, it will have an economic effect on the village community.
“We hope the head of the village in Biak Numfor set aside his village funds. Then, it should create an economic empowerment program. The program will manage natural potential in supporting STC 2023 activities,” he said.
Based on village fund data for 2023 for Biak Numfor Regency, it will reach approximately IDR 180 billion for the total funds.
