Some time ago, the Mappi Government recruited 20 elementary school students and teachers to participate in Gasing Method Training. The 20 selected elementary school students and teachers participated in the Gasing Method Training for two weeks, from March 21 to April 5, 2023.
Mappi Regent Michael R. Gomar opened this ceremony. Professor Yohanes Surya was also present for the opening ceremony for the Gasing Method Training that took place in Mappi City. This Gasing method was initially conceptualized and developed by Professor Yohanes Surya himself.
In the Gasing Method Training activities, selected school students and teachers learn a new counting method using the Gasing Method. The Gasing Method itself, Professor Yohanes Surya, introduced as a fun and easy counting method for children.
In short, the Gasing Method is a step-by-step method of learning mathematics that makes children master mathematics easily but still fun. The key to this Gasing Method is the learning process built from understanding the previous material, which is structured so that it is easy for students to master the material.
In this Gasing Method Training, the officers conducting the training are officers from the Indonesia Jaya Technology Foundation. During this training process, officers from the Indonesia Jaya Technology Foundation teach various fun ways to count using the Gasing Method.
Since the third day of training, the Indonesia Jaya Technology Foundation’s training has produced quite positive results. Students in elementary school who receive numeracy instruction can readily count using the Gasing method. Professor Yohanes Surya provided a favorable evaluation of the event’s organization.
“The collaborative efforts made by Mappi Regent with us are extraordinary. I saw that the implementation went very smoothly. The teachers and students were very enthusiastic, so I feel delighted,” said Yohannes on March 24, 2023.
Students and Teachers will Do a Tour
After the Gasing Method Training program is over, the City Government of Mappi hopes that many schools in Mappi can apply this Gasing method in the learning process. The government has devised a trip or tour program to make this goal a reality.
In this tour, teachers who have attended the Gasing method training program can teach related to the Gasing method.
Furthermore, several students who participated in the Gasing method training program will also participate in this tour to motivate or encourage other students.
“Likewise, students who have received training can participate in motivating school friends in districts and also villages,” said Mappi District Head Michael Gomar on April 7, 2023.
The Mappi city education office has prepared a tour program teaching the Gasing method to several districts and villages. In detail, the local government will run this tour program from September to October 2023.
This Gasing Method Training Program is President Joko Widodo’s Mandate
The Gasing Method Training Program for arithmetic is a mandate from President Joko Widodo. Previously, during President Joko Widodo’s visit to Humbang Hasundutan in February 2022, Professor Yohanes made a presentation regarding this method.
Through his presentation, Professor Yohanes showed the results of the Gasing Method Training he was doing. Showing a positive response, President Joko Widodo requested that the Gasing Method Training be continued in various regions in Indonesia.
One of the regions that have responded to President Joko Widodo’s directives is several regions in Papua. Including Mappi, several regions in Papua that participated in the Gasing Method Training are Manokwari and Biak Numfor.
The Mappi Government recruited 20 elementary school students and teachers to participate in Gasing Method Training. To follow up on the training program, the City Government of Mappi will organize a quick tour to teach this Gasing method.
