Fakfak is one of the regencies that exist in West Papua Province. This regency was famous as an economic and trade center in West Papua in the past. Officially established since November 16, 1990, there are some regents who once led Fakfak. One of them is Mohammad Uswanas.

Uswanas continuously led Fakfak for two periods. He became a regent of Fakfak Regency in the period of 2010 to 2015. Then, the citizens of Fakfak re-elected him as a regent in the period of 2016 to 2021. In total, he became a regent in Fakfak Regency for 10 years.

Mohammad Uswanas was born in Fakfak, West Papua, on 16 February 1960. He is the son of Abdul Kadir Uswanas and Aisyah Atamimi. When he was growing older, he married Lina Surjani. For now, his profession is politician. Uswanas comes from the Golkar political party.

At that time, Uswanas replaced Wahidin Puarada as a regent in Fakfak after 10 years of his reign. He started his duty as a regent on 7 December 2010 to 7 December 2015. In his first period as a regent, he was accompanied by the deputy regent, Donatus Nimbitkendik.

After successfully carrying out his duties, Uswanas ran for the next regent election for the second time. Then, the citizens of Fakfak Regency re-elected him again as their regent. In his second period, Abraham Sopaheluwakan accompanied him as the deputy regent. So, he ruled for around 10 years.

Educational History

Then, how about the educational background of Mohammad Uswanas? In fact, he is one of the political figures who care about education. He started his school life in YPK Fakfak Elementary School at the age of nine. It was 1969 at that time, and then he graduated in 1975.

After that, Uswanas entered middle school at the age of 15 in the year of 1975. Then, he graduated middle school in 1978. Then, he enrolled at Public High School 416 Fakfak and graduated in 1982. After his high school graduation, Uswanas went to Jayapura to attend college there.

He enrolled in the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Cendrawasih University. Then, he graduated in 1988. Years later, he took a Graduate program in Master of Economics from Cendrawasih University. He got his Master Degree in 2009. He was 49 years old at that time.

Not only that, but he also went to Yogyakarta to continue his study. Uswanas enrolled in a Postgraduate program in Public Policy at Gajah Mada University. He proved that age is definitely not an obstacle to seeking knowledge, even in a formal institution.

Career History

Then, how about the career background of Mohammad Uswanas? He started his career as an Instructor and Permanen Trainer at the Irian Jaya Province trade office team. At that time, Papua Province was still called Irian Jaya. It was in the year of 1988. 

Then, he became a Head of Student Administration Sub Division of Jayapura Engineering Academy. He also had time to become an employee of PT. Sucofindo Persero Jayapura. After that, Uswanas went into politics and managed to get a place in the legislative seat.

He started his political career as a member of the DPRD for the Province of Irian Jaya. DPRD is an abbreviation of the Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Daerah. In English, it literally means the Regional Representative Council of People. It is a regional legislative institution in Indonesia.

After becoming a DPRD member, Mohammad Uswanas then advanced to the election as a candidate for regent of Fakfak. Not just once, but twice. In both elections, Uswanas managed to win the vote from the citizens of Fakfak.
